As a child of the nineties, I have such a soft spot for the toys of my youth. Furbies were somehow cute and creepy at the same time, Skip-Its were practically the only way my mom could get me to exercise, and I'm pretty sure I thought my Lite Brite drawings had one up on Van Gogh's Starry Night.  I've gotten over most of my obsessions because, you know, I grew up or something. But every now and then, those old standbys get an update and my pigtails-sporting, ... Read More

Equality in this country seems to be tricky business. Sure, LGBT people can vote! Marry each other (in six states of our fifty nifty)! Get elected to public office! Apparently not on the list? Serve as a den leader for the Boy Scouts. Jennifer Tyrell, who volunteered to take the position as den leader for her son's Tiger Scout troop in Ohio, has been forced to resign because she is a lesbian. Tyrell acted as den leader for over a year, a period in which she and ... Read More
Polish artist Katarzyna Majak explores female wisdom in her upcoming solo photography exhibit Women of Power at Porter Contemporary in New York. Fascinated by stereotypical witch imagery, Majak's images show women clutching their objects of power and emanating confidence and strength. The artist claims "A witch is a woman of knowledge who takes a broom and sweeps to cleanse the world," and her subjects seem to be cleansing the viewer with their piercing stares and ... Read More
We have to admit, there's something a bit predictable about donning dresses that look like they're made of flowers once the clouds start to lift and the mercury starts to rise. Despite the fact that it's been done before, there's just something about floral prints that goes hand in hand with nice weather. And today in New York, where the high is slated to be in the mid-80s, it's the perfect excuse to indulge in a little flower power. Florals don't have to look ... Read More
In honor of Equal Pay Day tomorrow, the National Partnership for Women & Families has released staggering new data that illustrates exactly what women are losing out on due to the wage gap. In New York alone, women on average are paid 83 cents to every dollar paid to men. When the data is separated and examined more closely, women of color fare worse, with African American women earning 76 cents and Latina women 63 cents to every dollar. This sounds terrible, ... The BUST Craftacular took over SoHo on Saturday, filling the space at 82 Mercer with over 100 vendors and more than 2,000 craft enthusiasts throughout the day. Set-up began early. 8 AM on a Saturday is not a time I see often, but it was totally worth it to see the transformation of the space. Before the crowds arrived! With vendors loading in, we got a sneak peek at the incredible wares. I had friends meeting me later, and I was nearly exploding because I had ... Read More
It's the moment we've all been waiting for. Last week we told you how spectacular she is at giving presents, but this week she's taken my excitement level from a 4.5 to an 11. Betty White, that sassy spitfire who's enjoying a second wave of fame (maybe third? fourth? fifth at this point?), has joined Twitter. Let the celebrations commence! Two hours after joining, she was already nearing 40,000 followers. And, in true Betty White fashion, her third Tweet ... Read More
The Hunger Games are maybe the antithesis of anything hipster--a multi-million dollar blockbuster written for twelve year olds and playing at only the most mainstream of multiplexes? Definitely not standard hipster fare. For some reason, though, the young adult series has really struck a chord in my circle of tattooed, bespectacled, bicycle-riding twenty-something friend group. We can't get enough of Katniss Everdeen. Reading the books, I couldn't help but wonder ... Read More
It must be nice to have friends like Betty White. Seriously, the lady's 90 years old and is still making me laugh. The latest proof of her impenetrable aura of cool: she got Elton John a crocodile for his birthday a few weeks ago, the Huffington Post reports. Now now now. Before you animal lovers get upset at the thought of the flamboyant pop crooner (or anyone, for that matter) actually owning  a crocodile, let me explain. An animal lover herself, White ... Read More
