As much as I loved the excitement of McQueen on Middleton, the fashion from last night’s opening of the Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty exhibition in conjunction with the annual Met Gala is more exciting to me than all the royal wedding dresses or oscar gowns in the world! You see less celebs playing it safe and instead bringing real glamour to the red carpet. Congrats to Kate and William. I know coverage is everywhere, but I wanted to talk about a few bits of awesomeness that came out of this wedding. First of all, lets take a moment to admire Kate’s glorious Alexander McQueen by Sarah Burton gown. No doubt about it, she looked stunning. Gotta hand it to Sarah Burton, this is one lady who’s good at keeping a secret. Ladies, Don’t let these new ladies' underwear sets, licensed by Marvel, fool you, real super powers are all in your head. Although, the idea is a totally sweet one, I find the execution of these sets completely ridiculous and uncomfortably sexist. Airbrushed cleavage “bursting” at the seams and tiny infant sized waistlines are sending the wrong message to the self-conscious, comic-book-reading,14-year-old girl in all of us. Back for its 7th year, this fabulously inexpensive flea market caters to fashionable gals sizes 14+ and will be acting as a fundraiser for Nolose and The Femme Collective, two wonderful body positive organizations. The Fat Girl Flea Market takes place, Saturday, April 30th from 12pm-8pm at the NYC LGBT Community Center (208 West 13th Street, NYC on the 1st floor). Admission is $10.
Donations can be dropped off at the LGBT Community Center on Friday April 29th between 4pm and 9pm, or on Saturday April 30th (the day of the event) from 12pm-3pm, only. Read More
