Vogue Italia was doing so well with their well-intended plus-sized model issue, but then they had to go and mess up their good PR with this monstrously tacky naming of a trend on the Vogue Italia website. They've always been one to push the envelope, but this time, I literally don't know what they were thinking. As of Monday morning, they replaced "slave" with with the word "ethnic," but is that really any better?  I never understood fashion's use of the word "ethnic," especially since the U.S. and parts of Europe are such a melting pot of cultures. Rodarte's simple, yet dreamy lookbook for their newest Opening Ceremony collection was shot by frequent Rodarte collaborator Autumn de Wilde and features models, Stephan Haurholm and twins Gwen and Donna Loos. The collection, inspired by Scandinavia, is full of muted colors of ruffles and pleats that give way to delightfully full, bright patterns showcased in their jumpsuits and dresses. I have to say, I'm most fond of the short, pleated party dresses above and the graphically patterned jumpsuits below. Read More
In my previous entry, I chronicled the look I put together for the 2011 Jazz Age Lawn Party on Governors Island. My outfit was just one of many and when I got to the event, there were so many fantastically dressed people that I didn't know which way to turn! I love how everyone was completely dressed to the nines. The men were dapper, the ladies were glamorous, and even a few adorable kids were dressed up. It made me glad that such an event even exists! Check out some of my favorite fabulous looks from this wonderfully jazzy event.. Read More
The Jazz-Age Lawn Party, a fabulous bi-annual, daytime jazz event on NYC's  Governors Island took place earlier in the summer and is currently taking place this weekend, August 20th and 21st. I was lucky enough to attend yesterday and I have to say the outfits were fantastic and the bow-tie clad boys made me swoon. For some reason, I've always been infatuated with redheads. I feel like they command attention, stand out from a crowd and somehow make anything look glamorous. They add a pop of color to even the most boring ensembles! Red hair seems to offer or elicit a special air of confidence and I love that it's sort of different from the norm, especially certain bright colors, but it doesn't feel too crazy. When I did a little research, I found out that almost all my favorite, fabulous redheads were not actually born that way. Of all the designers out there, Karl Lagerfeld is not exactly known for loving "the little people," but not only did he give us a collection for H&M in 2004, but lo and behold he's gone and created another well-priced line exclusively for Macy's now. “To me Macy’s is the perfect department store in the US where everybody can find what they’re looking for without ruining their budget," Lagerfeld said in a release, "That’s why I am happy to make this limited collection just for Macy’s. One of my favorite people in NYC is Galadriel Masterson, fashion stylist, BUST contributor, and self proclaimed “cuntastic lezberry,” she knows it all and she isn’t afraid to tell you! Luckily for us, Galadriel has recently launched her new web series, “In Bed with Galadriel” where she’ll be interviewing various NY luminaries (in bed, natch) and getting all up in their faces. While watching Hallmark's I Love Lucy marathon in honor of Lucille Ball's 100th birthday yesterday, I found myself swooning over Lucy's outfits. Her ensembles are classic, of course, but many of the elements (sheer, lace, sweetheart necklines, polka dots, tea-length hems, etc.) seem to be particularly on-trend at the moment. So much so, that I easily could compile a look from several stores mimicking her signature looks. Read More
