Topman, an offshoot of the internationally renowned clothing line Topshop, is sponsoring a female blogger for the first time in its 35 year history.  Sonny Oram, founder of Qwear, identifies as a queer female whose wardrobe consists of menswear. Topman announced their new sponsorship in an interview with Oram, where she discussed how gender identity and sexuality helped inform her style.  She details how she prefers clothes that will hide her curves, but she shies away from the term “androgynous.   Underwear for the holidays? Oh boy, not again! But wait... this Kmart and Joe Boxer commercial actually makes underwear seem festive. Tossing out the familiar and overtly sexualized David Beckham-esque boxer aesthetic, the company opts for a parody of that sexualization, and I gotta say, this version is way more in the fun, magical and childlike vein of true holiday cheer.   On Monday, BUST’s Katie Fustich introduced us to “23 Trends Guys Hate,” a ridiculous list published on Huffington Post outlining various fashion trends men find unattractive on women. The original piece sparked obvious anger: how presumptuous is it for anyone to assume that someone dresses themselves for another’s benefit? Clearly, women don’t dress for the sole purpose of pleasing men, so if some dude hates our high-waisted skirts, it’s not the end of the world. Read More
Chrystal Bougon, the owner of plus-size lingerie store Curvy Girl, is encouraged to see more plus-size models these days, but she thinks it might not be enough. After all, “anything over size 4 is considered plus-size,” she says. And most are photoshopped. She is “constantly asked for pictures of [her] products on 'regular' bodies,” bodies without any airbrushing or editing. In her “Regular Women” campaign, she delivers by asking women over Facebook  to send in images of themselves in lingerie. Read More
Today, the Huffington Post brought us a lovely dollop of wisdom in the form of men sharing which women's clothing trends they hate the most. Gee, what a thought-provoking and completely valid discussion! I sure do love thinking about all of the women and girls who will forsake their personal style after reading about how some douchebag thinks peplum tops look like maternity wear! Let's take a look at a few of the especially imbecilic gems the menfolk of the internet had to share. As you can imagine, they are all highly valid and well-thought out points... Oh ho ho... Though former fashion-week front row-er Tavi Gevinson doesn't focus much on fashion these days, she's certainly looking most rad in Cole Haan's holiday ad campaign.  The campaign, whose theme is "Talented & Gifted," also features Broadway actors, entrepreneurs, and a 7th grade heavy-metal band (They're called "Unlock the Truth"--I am totally listening to them right now).   Tavi also has a hand-picked gift selection, which you can view here. You know, just in case you plan on getting all of the loved ones in your life a $268.00 pair of shoes. Read More
It's Freebie Friday, and BUST is teaming up with that adorable little shoppe on the corner, Good Manners, to give away this oh so sweet and lovely carry-all, the Carol bag, full big enough to fit all your essentials, including your laptop! Good Manners was started by Jennifer and Andrew, a visual artist and a literary artist respectively, to fill the needs of well mannered women and men who maintain a classical sensibility and taste.   BUSTies, you only live once. And it would certainly be a shame to spend your precious time on Earth playing it safe with your fashion choices. Just when you thought YOLO, the acronym that has been a target for ridicule since its conception, was gone for good, the social media phrase has reinvented itself in a way that deserves only applause. African Apparel, a British clothing company, has released a new YOLO shirt with Yoko Ono’s beloved visage gracing its front. Read More
This weekend, amidst my hectic schedule of clicking "Next Episode" on Netflix, I was introduced to the app ThirdLove. The just-launched app promises to fit the user for the perfect bra. I have been fitted for a bra in the past--a Victoria's Secret "professional" with a measuring tape and really cold hands curtly informed me I had a wide back and small boobs. But hey, my bras fit.  Nevertheless, I was intrigued by ThirdLove. Read More
Elodie Fiers Paris, France Tell me about what you’re wearing. The sweater is vintage from Etsy—it was a gift. The collar’s from Zara, and it cost around $30. I got the necklace for $2 from a flea market, and the skirt’s from American Apparel, it was about $55. The tights were about $6, and the shoes are Valentino; they were a gift from my boyfriend. The tote is from Etsy, by an illustrator named Julia Pott.  How would you describe your style? When I started my blog (ladymoriartyinparis.blogspot. Read More
