It's been a grueling search for the female lead of the Hollywood adaptation of Stieg Larsson's The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo. Names have been tossed in the air and shot down like Duck Hunt: Ellen Page, Carey Mulligan, Emily Browning, Emma Watson, Mia Wasikowska, Kristen Stewart. But Sony Pictures has announced today that Lisbeth Salander will be played by Rooney Mara, who recently starred in a remake of Nightmare on Elm Street and in the forthcoming The Social Network about the rise of Facebook. The hilariously specific comedy sketches made by Thunderant's Carrie Brownstein and Fred Armisen haven't been popping up on their website very regularly these days. This probably has something to do with the fact that they've been busy thinking up new material for 'Portlandia,' a Thunderant inspired comedy series set to air on IFC, which begins production later this month.
The show will be shot entirely in Oregon, and will pull from a bevy of Portland specific scenarios such as fanatical crafting, passionate recycling, and people with master's degrees working in pizza joints. Read More

BUST-y lady, and our lovely managing editor, Emily Rems appeared as a guest this morning on the NPR show "The Takeaway" to discuss the death of the "macho man" in present day cinema. Today, two very different movies are being released in theaters nationally - "Eat, Pray, Love" and "The Expendables."
The question at hand here is, when a movie is so crammed with tried and true, and stereotypically "strong" actors, and all of those actors happen to be over forty, does this predict the death of "the macho man?"
