Neither had I, until I saw this coverage of Armpits4August, the charity group raising awareness of PCOS, as it’s known, by growing out their underarm hair for one whole month. Like Movember, in which men grow out their mustaches for the month of November to raise money for men’s health, Armpits4August has women grow out their armpit hair to raise awareness of PCOS, a disease so common that it affects up to 10% of women, yet so little is known about it that no one is even certain of where it comes from. This ain't no joke: Feminist comedian Bridget Christie at the top of the world - and the Edinburgh International Comedy Festival. The British comedian won this year's Foster's Edinburgh comedy award for her show A Bic for Her, which critiques everyday sexism. (Tickets sold here for you U.K. BUSTies.) Christie is a big deal for U.K. comedy. She is the third female solo act to win this award, preceded by Jenny Eclair in 1995 and Laura Solon in 2005. Read More
Happening RIGHT NOW at Macy’s Herald Square: the anti-sexism protest group UltraViolet is gathering outside of the iconic Macy’s location to protest the company’s continued lobbying – and you won’t believe this – against equal pay for women. A bill mandating equal pay for equal work passed through Texas legislature – which is a miracle of itself – but Governor Rick Perry vetoed the bill at Macy’s behest, according to the Huffington Post.     Yesterday, my fiance and I applied for our very first apartment. Hello, excitement, stress, and other emotions I don’t even think have words attached to them. The apartment is in a small college town where I went to school, a town we call “The Twilight Zone Town” because it is so idyllic and magical to us. Even though we don’t know if we will get the apartment, the place already feels like the home we’ve always wanted. Oh mon dieu! C’est incroyable!  Ok, so my French is a lil' rusty, but that doesn’t stop me from loving Paris, France. I even have a tattoo of the Eiffel Tower because I love that city so much. So if you had seen my face when I found out that Paris’s upcoming mayoral race IS ALL FEMALE, you probably would’ve been floored.
