In a recent interview with HollywoodLife.com, Gloria Steinem said she approves of Lena Dunham. The interview took place at the DVF Awards, a ceremony that honors women who have "leadership, strength, and courage in their respective fields." Steinem said she believes the world is very different from when she first started fighting for women’s rights. The Ugandan government has proposed a bill that will allow women to be arrested for wearing skirts above their knees in public.  This proposed law, which directly targets women, isn’t entirely new to the Ugandan people. Uganda’s third President, Idi Amin 1971-1979 (who you may remember as depicted in the film The Last King of Scotland), also banned short skirts in a decree during his time in office.  Currently wearing short skirts is not illegal, but culturally it is deemed improper if a woman exposes her knees or shoulders.   Yesterday, protesters in various cities joined the Ukrainian feminist group Femen for an international "topless jihad" to combat oppressive sexism in Muslim communities. The protest was inspired by Amina, the young Tunisian woman who was condemned by her country for posting topless photos of herself on the internet."Our boobs will be stronger than their stones" says a protester.
