Ice cream made from breast milk was banned from London gourmet shop the Icrecreamists, based on a complaint regarding a perceived health risk. The mother’s milk was screened at a leading medical clinic, pasteurized, and then served in a martini glass with lemon zest and vanilla for about $22.50.  The compliant was filed by two men, who reported it to the Westminster council. Women have been playing a major role in Egypt’s quest for self-governance for a long time. Sixty years ago, Doria Shafik led 1,500 women into parliament, demanding the right to vote. This action let to Shafik’s arrest and garnered international attention. She staged hunger strikes, and various other protests, before being put on permanent house arrest and having her name banned from the press. She eventually committed suicide, a sad end to an inspiring activist. Read More
On March 8th, 2011, thousands of men and women will meet on bridges as part of the "Join Me on the Bridge" campaign in 29 countries to show that there can be no sustainable peace unless the voices of women are heard. It will be more than a powerful statement: March 8th is also International Women's Day, so hopefully the two together will create a dialogue about what we can do to help women both in places of conflict and at home. Dr Pepper is market testing a new diet soda: Pepper 10. The name refers to the ten (manly) calories packed into the diet drink. Pepper 10 and Diet Dr Pepper are almost identical on the inside, with Pepper 10 containing a blend of sweeteners including high-fructose corn syrup, acesulfame potassium and aspartame and has 10 calories. Diet Dr Pepper is made with aspartame and has 0 calories. There's really one only key difference between the traditional Diet Dr and Pepper 10, though, that Pepper 10 is not for pussies.
