We all hopefully know men who don't think they have the right to make decisions for us (reproductive or otherwise). Some of us even know men brave enough to call themselves feminists. But these men aren't the ones in the news. Women are speaking out against the injustices of having male politicians decide what's right for their bodies; but we're not beyond calling for the help of men who also believe that we have the right to make our own decisions. The South certainly has us buzzing this afternoon! It seems that every day there is a breaking story about a new assault on women's rights. The latest addition to the fray comes from Georgia (my home state: keep up the good work, y'all). Mother of four Nirvana Jennette reports that she was asked to leave church for breastfeeding her child during a service.   Now that women's birth control is becoming a subject of contention among (mostly male) Republicans in Congress, it seems only fair that birth control for men be put under the same scrutiny. At least this is what a group of female Georgia legislators in the House of Representatives believe--so they've just proposed a bill that would ban men from getting vasectomies.Of course, the proposal of this bill was a response to something more specific than the general, ongoing attack on women's reproductive rights.   Republican Gov. Bob McDonnell has changed his stance on the recent controversial bill that would have required women getting abortions to first have a transvaginal ultrasound. McDonnell must have felt the heat from opponents after he was sent a petition containing over 33,000 signatures urging him to veto the bill. “Mandating an invasive procedure in order to give informed consent is not a proper role for the state,” said McDonnell according to Reuters.   Today Sandra Fluke, the woman deemed unqualified to appear in last week's hearings, testified in support of Women's reproductive rights in a hearing organized by Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi and the House Democratic Steering and Policy Committee.
