Newsflash: the mainstream media isn't always kind to women, particularly when it comes to their physical appearances. Last month, Texas lost the Medicaid Women’s Health Program, which formerly served 130,000 low-income women by funding clinics that provided preventative care. (BUST blogged about this issue before the cut was made.) This care included cancer screenings and contraception--some of the affected clinics were Planned Parenthood-affiliated, but none of the federal money contributed to abortions. Texas Governor Rick Perry decided that no government funds should be allowed to go to Planned Parenthood anyway, and tried to have them excluded from the funding. Read More
Reports being published both domestically and abroad are contending that international aid money from the United States and the United Kingdom has been used to fund forced sterilization in India. The so-called “family planning” initiatives of this kind of First World aid are an attempt to curtail the ballooning population of the Indian subcontinent—a staggering 1.2 billion people, according to the Guardian. The forced sterilization is being excused in the name of climate control, as a world population that’s gotten out of hand intensifies fears of global warming. Read More
  This week's Time magazine cover story about Bill Sears has everyone up in arms. Even though the article is about Sears himself, the cover image shows a woman breastfeeding her large child, and the headline "Are you Mom Enough?' seems to be screaming "Lady, you are a freak!"  Even though the boy on the cover is apparently 3 years old, he looks to be about 5 or 6. Folks are saying this is pedophilia, and perverted. Read More
Just a few days after Vice President and lovable uncle Joe Biden announced his support of same-sex marriage, and a day after the North Carolina amendment banning same-sex marriage was passed, the POTUS himself declared that his views on the issues have "evolved." In an interview with ABC's Robin Roberts, he described his opinions and how they have changed over the years, and the conversations with his wife, daughters, openly gay service members, and staffers that have guided him to officially affirm his support of same-sex marriage.
