  Legendary Ari Up started making a documentary about the influential herstory of her band The Slits. She teamed up with former band manager Jennifer Shagawat to deliver this epic story of social rebellion, riot, and really awesome music. It’s crazy we don’t know that much about The Slits yet, considering they laid the foundation for so many feminist and punk movements that happened after them.   Piney Gir, the London-based Kansas-born musician and one-time member of all-girl art-rock band The Schla La Las, will be taking to the decks at the BUST Summer Craftacular at York Hall in Bethnal Green on May 17, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. We could not be more excited! “I want to be in a movie,” Meredith Graves tells me. “I do kind of feel like I’m living in a movie a lot of the time.” The 27-year-old musician and writer would be a compelling heroine, no doubt. A cinematographer couldn’t hope for a more arresting visual than a wide shot of Graves onstage with her band Perfect Pussy, gripping the microphone with white knuckles, a sea of sweaty kids pushing each other in the pit below.
