Even though I was sick as a dog and filled with green boogers from the shoulders up, I ran-skipped all the way to the BUST office when I got word that my Joey Roth Ceramic Speakers had arrived. "I hope you don't have to send these back; the box is huge," my editor informed me. And I'm glad that I don't have to send them back too because at this point, I would put on a onesie and wrestle someone to the ground to be able to keep these things.

I don’t know about you but there is only one record I reach for at this time of year – Phil Spector’s ‘A Christmas Gift for You.' From the ‘ringadingadingdongding’ of Sleigh Ride to the multi layered Frostie the Snowman, it’s the only soundtrack you’ll ever need for wrapping, baking and decorating. Now I don’t want to dwell on the distinctly un-festive things which have happened to Phil since he produced the ... Read More

That's right, folks. Tonight, New York's own Les Savy Fav will be on IFC's "Dinner with the Band" at 8pm. So check your local listings! And if you don't have cable, go to a friend's house.

Thanks to a good friend who had a spare ticket, I was fortunate enough to spend last Friday evening at Webster Hall here in NYC with indie/art/prog/whatever you want to call them-rockers, Mew. Having no experience seeing the Danish band live, I was pretty excited to see what they had in store.
The evening opened with the Brooklyn-based band, Bear in Heaven. I try to stay open-minded when it comes to opening bands, especially when they are preceding highly known ... Read More

We've been fans of Rachel Trachtenburg since she was but a wee lass, bangin' the drums for her family's band, the Trachtenburg Family Slideshow Players. So it's a little hard to believe that she's turning 16. What's not hard to believe though, is how many awesome people will be helping her celebrate on December 13th at the House of Yes in Brooklyn! With performances by Murray Hill, Care Bears on Fire, and Rachel's new band SUPERCUTE, this is a sweet 16 party you ... Read More
This review is long overdue -- but cut me some slack, it's hard to be a double intern and a retail employee during the holiday season. A couple of weeks ago, I saw Amanda Blank and Peaches at Terminal 5 in NYC, and it pretty much made my month. Amanda Blank, who I've described to friends as a hip-hop heir of Peaches, kicked everything off with a bang, warming up the crowd with her in-your-face lyrics and dance-tastic beats.
Blank was wearing a crazy outfit that a ... Read More

Bear with me while I dork out for a second. I love Christmas music. I do, I can’t help it. I think it started with my cherished New Kids on the Block, Merry Merry Christmas cassette (featuring Donnie Wahlberg’s seminal tune Funky, Funky Xmas), and these days come December 1st I’ve got A John Waters Christmas on repeat. So you can bet I was down to see The Brian Setzer Orchestra’s Christmas Rocks! Extravaganza at the Hammerstein Ballroom on ... Read More
Seeing a band or performer who you really like play live for the first time is such a delicate situation. Let's say that you've been listening to a certain album non-stop for months, are madly in love with it, and then you go see the songs performed live and they just majorly stink up the place. It's a sad thing when that happens, but let me just tell you that this did NOT happen when I went to my first ever Jemina Pearl show at Music Hall of Williamsburg on ... Read More
I am considering making it "my thing" in writing up concert reviews to re-tell the occurrences of fights that broke out while I was there. It seems to happen at every show I go to and is distracting in that sort of "this is so awkward, I can't look away" sort of way. Last night I attended the Julian Plenti show at the Bowery Ballroom, which was also apparently attended by the inhabitants of some sort of local mental hospital.
Julian Plenti is ... Read More

Okay, Okay, everyone knows how super cool Jon Spencer is, but have you seen him lately? People, if Heavy Trash is coming to your neck of the woods on tour, I strongly advise you get yourself out to see this band perform. They KILLED it last month at the record release party, and I can safely say he's one of the greatest performers of our time. Check out the latest video for Gentle, off their latest album Midnight Soul Serenade on Fat Posum. PS. this vid was made by ... Read More
