Atlanta grime-rock masters, The Black Lips, announced a month of additional dates to their already packed North American tour in support of their forthcoming album. The album is produced by Amy Winehouse hit maker Mark Ronson, a far cry from the directly to tape analog recordings of their 2007 album, Good Bad Not Evil. As the Vice blog noted, it's "the most anticipated collaboration since Sid and Nancy." Infamous for puking on stage, the Black Lips are giving you two months worth of shows. Plenty of time to wow you with their heavy jams and gross you out with their bodily fluids. Read More
"Who is opening for Interpol?" I think I heard that 10 times while waiting for the School of Seven Bells / Interpol show @ Radio City Music Hall to begin on Thursday night. These days my statuesque gods in 3-piece suits tend to draw the Burning Man mob. (Remember Kelly'sreview?) So, of course I smelled skunk weed. And the dude who sat next to me played air drums during their entire set. But the real heartbreaker? Some of these people were unfamiliar with School of Seven Bells. “Who are they? Never heard of ‘em.” Really? I feel sorry for these cave dwellers. Read More

I cannot get Jessie J’s debut single, “Do it Like a Dude” out of my head ever since I heard it last night, and I won’t be surprised if it becomes an instant club hit (especially at lesbian night at the local gay bar). Jessie J has been singing professionally from the age of 11, when she was cast in an Andrew Loyd Webber musical. Ever since, she’s been penning songs for artists including Justin Timberlake (who calls her “the best singer in the world right now”), Christina Aguilera, Alicia Keys, and Miley Cyrus (she wrote the hit “Party in the U.  I love a good dis battles. It's a spectacle of both ribaldry and talent that is sweeter than the normal tabloid infused Pitt-Jole-Aniston love triangle, because the participants of the rivalry actually partake in the dissin' and the audience gets to cheer and boo from the internet sidelines. Plus, we get to invest in a love or hate fan relationship that, if lucky, can last us a life time. I still draw lines when it comes to MC Lyte and Antoinette , and that battle happened when I was a wee three-year old. Read More

My favorite girlie-punk twins, Eagle and Talon, release In Manila on February 22nd.    After my ipod favorite, Thracian, the girls are back. AND joined by Mr. Reggie Watts. There's the same alt sweetness - a somehow optimistic and eerie style that keeps you dancing in your underpants.  This is what we expect from Eagle and Talon.  In Manila brings new riffs and crazy melodies - it's fresh and delicious. Go to their Kickstarter. For 5 bucks you can download their new EP In Manila. Read More
You may recognize tUnE-yArDs' song "Fiya" as that charming ukulele-plucking track from that blackberry commercial, or you might've seen her steal the show from the Dirty Projectors back in 2009, or maybe you saw her in the USA-Montreal-Toronto trio Sister Suvi a couple years back. but maybe all that flew under your radar.
