Beth Ditto, Bust cover-girl, front-woman for The Gossip, and overall feminist badass, has released a four-track solo EP with Simian Mobile Disco. After breaking virtually all the rules of the music industry, she has out-done herself again by proving she can successfully make it on her own. The full self-titled EP, released by label Deconstruction Records can be bought as a digital download or a physical 12" vinyl at Beatport, an online music store. We were shocked and saddened to hear the news this morning of the death of Trish Keenan, of the UK band Broadcast. Their label, Warp Records, released this statement today:
“It is with great sadness we announce that Trish Keenan from Broadcast passed away at 9am this morning in hospital. She died from complications with pneumonia after battling the illness for two weeks in intensive care.
Our thoughts go out to James, Martin, her friends and her family and we request that the public respect their wishes for privacy at this time. Read More

This past December, I saw Prince for the first time at Madison Square Garden. For those of us used to seeing indie rock shows in a half-filled dive bar, there is certainly something eerily futuristic/Matrix-y about a concert in a vast, jam-packed arena complete with video screens, nausea-inducing bleachers, 20,000 seats, and nine dollar domestic beers. A smallish sized city of people had assembled and paid at least ninety dollars to see the man- just one of many sold-out shows- which must be some kind of ego trip. Read More
