Now this is impressive: Doris Long just became the world’s oldest abseiler, or person who descends very high vertical structures on ropes. She took up the sport at 85, and Sunday, the 101-year-old beat her own record as the world's oldest abseiler when she once again lowered herself down 328 feet of Portsmouth's Spinnaker Tower in the United Kingdom.   Not only did she break an already impressive record, but Long’s feat helped raise $122,305 for Rowans Hospice. This was her sixteenth time doing the abseiling for hospice. Read More
Dear everyone who has ever said, "You'll want kids someday," Let’s start from the beginning. At the age of 15, I watched, “The Miracle of Life,” in my biology class, and nearly vomited everywhere during the childbirth scene. This doesn’t make me different from anyone else in the class, because we were all in shock. If you show a 15-year-old an unshaved coochie with a child coming out of it, the reaction is going to be negative. Actually, anybody old enough to understand childbirth will probably be disgusted—I certainly couldn’t watch it again. Read More
No one should be excluded from a job based on their identity or their sexuality – especially when that job is protecting the country. This week, The U.S. Military will announce their plans to no longer exclude transgender individuals from being service members. “We must ensure that everyone who's able and willing to serve has the full and equal opportunity to do so,” said Defense Secretary Ash Carter. Officials will assess the cost of the necessary changes, such as bathrooms and uniforms, over a period of six months. Read More
Three months ago, Youtube beauty guru Em Ford of My Pale Skin began posting pictures of herself without makeup to social media. A twenty-something ex-model turned filmmaker, Ford’s bare-faced selfies were a refreshing reprieve from the scores of lacquered, perfected Instagram selfies usually floating around the Internet. With an online following more than 200, 000 subscribers strong, Ford’s face attracted no small amount of public commentary. And in a viral short film uploaded earlier this month, Ford shed some light on that revealing experience. Read More

Make no mistake – women have made history. They’ve invented machines, cured diseases, discovered scientific phenomena, summited mountains, built landmarks, fought battles, championed causes, saved lives, won elections, and flown aircrafts. Female-identified folk have achieved so much – more than I can ever hope to list here – but most of those achievements have gone without proper recognition. Monuments to currency, postage stamps to national holidays, the faces, names, and legacies of women are woefully underrepresented, if not absent entirely. Read More
If you can write, you can create your very own computer game. Remember playing The Oregon Trail? The name probably invokes nostalgia for those who have fond memories of forging a river and choosing what provisions to bring. But for grown-up gamers, text-based games similar to The Oregon Trail are still popular, and it’s easier than ever to create your own. Read More

Imagine if Paula Deen cared about fixing her racist ways as much as she cares about butter? The former Food Network star posted a photo to social media of her and her son, Bobby, dressed as I Love Lucy’s Lucy and Ricky Ricardo. Ricky Ricardo is Cuban-American. Bobby is not. Just to make sure that this is extra wrong, he dons brownface. Image via Mic “We had so much fun on this episode y’all,” the caption reads, “I just had to share this photo with you.” No, no you did not. It gets worse! The picture was taken from an episode that aired in 2011. Read More
