Yes We Can

BY debbie in General

Democrats were not the only creatures rejoicing last night; even farm animals had reason to celebrate. And it's not because they were all pro-Obama (although I'm certain many of them were). Instead, the critters were celebrating the fact that Proposition 2 - the Prevention of Farm Animal Cruelty Act - passed in California yesterday! And thanks to this act, 20 million farm animals can rest a little easier, knowing that it will be illegal in that state to confine them to cages so small they can't move. Read More
Not only did I have a new and exciting prez to vote for this election, but it seemed like an endless amount of propositions that I had get on too. One of the most important and controversial one is Prop 8 . It would eliminate the right of same-sex couples to marry in the state of California. Hellz NO was I going to vote yes on that nasty Prop 8. Why would we want to deny other citizens their legal rights just because of their sexual orientation? This is the same bullshit that was thrown at women and people of different races and nationalities. Read More

Just got back from voting, it was fun and I'm glad that my nabe is not very residential, because the line wasn't too bad, I only had to wait about 30 minutes. I was worried that they would have one of those new, fancy electronic booths, and that I would accidentally lose my vote, like Oprah almost did, but not to worry. There they were, the rickety old machines from the 60's that my parents used to take me to when I was a kid-- So Steam Punky!. Read More

I Love Witches

BY Emily Rems in General

According to this story on today , a group in London is 'petitioning the British government for a posthumous pardon for the hundreds of people executed for witchcraft between the 16th and 18th centuries.' I dunno - seems like too little too late to me, and the whole angle of sending the petition around on Halloween strikes me as pretty hokey considering that over 400 real-live people were executed in England for alleged witchcraft before The Witchcraft Act of 1735 put an end to Britain's witch trials.
