Let's Work It Out!

The UK's Daily Mail attempted to insinuate (rather snottily, in this blogger's opinion) that kick-ass broad icon Jane Fonda's recent knee replacement was a result of her years of hard-core workouts. Fonda, never one to take lightly to such nonsense, has responded today to the allegations thru her delightful personal blog : 'A recent article in the Daily Mail reports that my knee replacement surgery was the result of years of repetitive pounding from doing my Jane Fonda Workout programs. French President Nicolas Sarkozy has urged parliament to form a commission to move toward banning the wearing of burkas in France--following the 2004 French ban on the wearing of Islamic headscarves in state-funded schools. In his speech, he said 'We cannot accept to have in our country women who are prisoners behind netting, cut off from all social life, deprived of identity,' and added 'the burka is not a sign of religion, it is a sign of subservience.' It's pretty awesome to hear a male head of state speak up so strongly in favor of the dignity and autonomy of women. Read More

Unfortunately you can't find a good version of the full video anywhere but I found this blurry link and you can watch clips of all the moments but you have to listen to their stupid comments, sorry. Many commercials use misogynistic messages and stereotypes to promote their product, especially products geared to men such as beer. As it turns out, advertisements targeted for women can be equally offensive and ridiculous. Take, for instance, the advertisements for Bacardi Breezers stating that the must-need accessory for a woman is an ugly female friend so they can seem more attractive in comparison. Society and the media are already encouraging impossible body image standards and cattiness among women. Read More
