Shoebox To Soapbox.

BY Brandy in General

According to the Daily News, a newborn baby girl was found inside of a shoebox , abandoned in a Long Island apartment building. The shoebox had holes in it so that the infant could breathe, and she was dressed in a striped onsie to keep her warm.  Police speculate that she was placed where she would be found quickly by whoever left her.  Allow me to hop right up on my soapbox. Below, if you can stomach it, is a clip from Bill O'Reilly's show where Ann Coulter is on to discuss the left's anger over the right's coverage of Dr. Tiller's murder. Coulter says this gem of a quote: 'I don't really like to think of it as a murder. It was terminating Tiller in the 203rd trimester.' She also refers to liberals as being on the 'pro-death' side, being for infanticide and that their logic is always for death. (Right, because it's not like they're against the death penalty or unjust wars, or anything. Read More

Kristen Schaal on Sirius

BY Lisa in General

How much do I love Kristen Schaal? Let me count the ways. Nope, nevermind, that would take too long and High Five, her limited-run radio show on Sirius, is starting just about now. Tune in! Kristen and her creative partner Kurt Braunohler will be their usual hilarious selves, taking calls from listeners and just generally being awesome. Next week, July 1, is the last episode. Don't have Sirius? You can watch clips on their website. Read More
Well, I guess we're just phone-happy today. Several of the BUSTies have gotten some mail from CREDO Mobile recently. It's a really cool concept for a company - they are completely open about what political campaigns they (and their competitors) contribute to. If you're like 99% of the population, you're on Facebook. Maybe you've seen the ads for the 'I love love' pro-gay marriage bumper stickers. Those are freebies from CREDO (I'm waiting for mine). On their mailers, it details what campaigns and stances they support. Read More

Va Va Vroom

Meet BUST's new girl crush, Danica Patrick. Why do we love her? Let me count the ways. 1. Danica kicks major ass in an industry overflowing with testosterone. This lovely lady has routinely broken racecar driving records by finishing higher and higher than any other woman who tried before her. She broke out onto the scene in 2005 when she finished fourth in the Indy 500, launching 'Danicamania' which, let's face it, was based a lot more on her  looks than her skills. Read More

Finish Him!

BY Web Intern in General

I don't know about the rest of you ladies, but I was a little girl of the 80s and 90s who was raised on video games. You know, fighting Bowser at age 4; whooping yo booty at Mortal Kombat by 8; the whole deal (this might be a good time to mention that I named my dog Zelda after - you guessed it - the Legend of Zelda series). I could fly Sonic through those gold rings with the best of 'em. I chalk it up to having an older brother and a dad who were Nintendo-crazy. Read More
The optimistic side of me likes to hope that people are judged more for their merit than qualities out of their control, but a recent study has proven me sadly wrong, at least in the realm of theater. According to Princeton economics student Emily Glassberg Sands and her new research studies , there is a major bias against female playwrights. Read More

New York: Not Scary

BY Web Intern in General

It's not nearly as bad as it looks, I promise. The New York Times published an interactive map on their website highlighting all of the murders in the 5 boroughs of NYC over the past 6 years. You can zoom in on any area and get the name of the victim, name of the murderer, time and date of the crime, the motive and the weapon (if the information is available) for each individual homicide. This graphic, a.k.a the crazy death map, makes New York look a LOT scarier than it really is. I promise. Read More

Baby, You're A Star

BY Brandy in General

I know a lot of us BUSTies are inked- but I doubt any of us can say we were able to doze thru the process.  Getting a tattoo is pleasurable for so many reasons, but it's not something I myself would call 'soothing'.  Belgian teen Kimberley Vlaminck would seem to differ- at least, at first.  This celestial enthusiast got some international press last week after claiming that the 56 stars tattooed onto her face were the result of her falling asleep in the artist's chair.
