Journalist Gbemisola Olujobi asks of cosmetic genital surgery, in her recent essay titled 'Designer Vaginas' : 'what are labiaplasty and clitoral hood reduction if not female circumcision?' Well, damn. I never had made a connection before between the increasing trend for women in Euro-American countries to get procedures to make themselves more 'neat, clean, and tidy' and the not-dissimilar procedures performed on infants in many African countries--and around the globe. It just so happens we are all up on this shizzle in BUST'S latest issue. Read More
The Nathan's Hot Dog Eating Competition wasn't the only weiner fest in town this holiday weekend. Minneapolis' Star Tribune took it there by holding a hot dog dressing contest to see who could costume a hot dog in the wackiest ways. This one is my personal favorite, but it somehow got robbed of a prize. Read More

Virtual Book Club

BY Web Intern in General

I'll be the first to admit my nerdiness. One of my favorite things in the world is talking about books, so naturally I am a big book club fan. Unfortunately, my favorite book club members keep having the audacity to live in different places than me and I'm tired of it! Well, now we finally have a solution: Book Glutton. This wonderfully named site gives people the opportunity to read books online together while recording public comments on them and discussing them with other readers. Read More
Hasidic hot pants, black gayby's, extreme dildo jousts, anal bleaching, these are just a few of the outrageous jokes in Sasha Baron Cohen's new Bruno flick. While the unofficial title, 'Delicious Journeys Through America For The Purpose Of Making Heterosexual Males Visibly Uncomfortable in the Presence of a Gay Foreigner in a Mesh T- shirt,' explains alot, the very Borat like story line is most successful at pointing out how stupid people can be. I laughed a lot, I cringed a lot, but also felt bad for the poor suckers that signed release forms to be in this movie. Read More
Take two cups of 'Pee Wee's Big Adventure,' 1/2 cup of Rachael Ray, a heaping tablespoon of 'H.R. Pufnstuf' and 5 tabs of acid--then stir frantically. The result? IFC's new show, 'Food Party,' which is hosted by the irrepressible, bat-shit crazy (in the best way) Thu Tran. Her gonzo cooking class is filled with a cast of degenerate puppets who float around her cardboard sets, helping assemble sometimes-inedible masterpieces. It started as a series of web shorts which Tran wrote and produced with her buddies and shot in her Greenpoint apartment. Read More
Growing up in North Carolina suburbia, I was no stranger to a full blown Halloween growing up. When I was in elementary school, the kid to adult ratio in my neighborhood was around 8 to 1, and come Halloween we ran things. Candy was power and the best part of the night was spreading out your winnings on the carpet after a long night and arranging trades before passing out drained from a sugar high. Read More
Clock these brand-spankin' new t-shirts from the good people of PETA. The tees range from cute neon to classic blue-and-gold, with catchy slogans to spare. Frankly, they had me at Club Soda Not Seals. Gotta love a t-shirt you can pun with. Read More

No, not than you dirty bugger. I'm talking about the little things in life like triple coupon weekends at the grocery store and free cone day at Ben and Jerry's. Whereas most promotions involve giving away your email address, your precious Washingtons, or your soul, once in a while, an easy opportunity comes along. This is one of those opportunities where a little goes a long way: getting mammograms to women in need with the click of a mouse. Read More

Windy Knitty

BY Web Intern in General

I can't even begin to describe the awesome that is this wind powered knitting factory.  An oldschool sock knitting machine is hooked up to a windmill  to routinely bust out a classic knitted tube that feeds into a building. Every now and then the people inside section it off to turn into scarves to sell. Each one has a label saying how long it took to be created with solely wind energy and on what date it was completed.
