Fancy Fast Food

BY Web Intern in General

Fancy Fast Food is a blog that takes classic fast food meals and transforms them into snazzy looking dishes. Talk about trash to treasure! Take this picture of 'tacobellini,'which is tortellini created from Taco Bell's burrito supreme. How crazy is that? I'm guessing they don't actually eat what they make, since they used the dark syrup from Coke to create faux-soy sauce for a chicken sushi dish from Popeye's. It kind of makes me think about what else I'm eating just because it looks fancy... Now excuse me while I go run to McDonald's. I suddenly have a craving for hashbrowns. Read More
It all started when Chrissie Brodigan, a 32-year-old woman from Brooklyn, boarded the L train and her 15 lb pug got sick. The pug, who has not been identified, was taken out of his carrier at which point Brodigan was approached by  three police officers and instructed to put the pug back in his container. Depending on who you ask next, the end of this story is told in a couple of ways. Alternate Ending #1 as told by The Gothamist is that the pug has health problems and became overheated. Read More
I just watched the trailer to the ladeez surfer movie Dear and Yonder and I have to say, I feel like I just came from a great yoga class. The trailer is like one deep, cleansing inhale. The music, by Vetiver is equally trancelike, calming, refreshing, and bright. In one clip, a surfer dives deep under the surface of the ocean with her board at her stomach with the ease of a porpoise. In another clip, a surfer dances back and forth on her board as she rides a wave, tiptoeing forward and back, testing her balance. Read More
I feel somewhat confident in saying that most of you reading this know someone -- or are someone -- who has watched Donnie Darko over and over again. Maybe as your go-to late night stoner flick, or as your midnight movie date, or as something you watched over and over again trying to tease out the answers from Richard Kelly's story. Donnie Darko was that movie you or I finally stumbled upon on DVD or at the one arty film theater in town that would play a film about metaphysics and a giant bunny. As Salon. Read More
These days it seems like everything is miniature: cupcakes, ipods, cars--hell, you can't even get a hamburger without eating 4 teeny little doll-sized sliders. Well, mini has come to the urban local food movement, and friends, it is good. Read More
The U.N is celebrating the efforts of their female peacekeepers with a photography exhibition in its lobby through August 4th. While women only make up 8 percent of U.N police and 2 percent of their military, the U.N has officially recognized that since women bear the brunt of war, they should have more of a presence in the peacekeeping. It has been found that women and children feel more comfortable approaching female officers with their personal problems, and that female officers make more of an effort to facilitate U.N goals of community dialogue and maintaining human rights. Favorite funny-lady Margaret Cho is burning a path through the television tubes this summer. Catch the airing of her concert film Beautiful, on Showtime this Friday, June 3rd, at 11. In her own words: 'This show is really about how we should feel beautiful. When you feel beautiful, you're going to have more of a willingness to use your voice to speak,' says Cho. 'And there are a lot of dick jokes. A whole lot. Read More

It's Take Your Dog to Work Day! This very important holiday started in 1999 to promote pet adoption and show off how awesome companion dogs are. It's true. People who have dogs see serious health benefits including lower blood pressure and stress levels. It's also been shown that elderly or ill people who have a pet to care for live longer because they have someone depending on them - a reason to get out of bed no matter what else. Pets can also ease mental illnesses like depression and PTSD. Not to mention the fact that dogs are the best listeners and snugglers around. Read More
This ad is so mind-blowingly (heh) offensive and slack that I can feel myself getting dumber as I write this. It manages to desecrate both burgers and blow-jobs--and as an erstwhile fan of both, and a defender of the ladies, it leaves me triply outraged and left with the same greasy sense of empty calories and broken promises that fast food so often delivers.
