Possibly due in part to all of your comments and exclamations, the Marriott has issued a statement explaining that they did not make those comments about the woman's own negligence, but their insurance company did. Kurzman said the Stamford Marriott staff are 'surprised and distressed' by The Advocate's coverage of the lawsuit filed by the victim. He said there is a 'mistaken belief that the Marriott's ownership and management was somehow responsible for the 'blame the victim' defense asserted in the legal papers. Read More
Who loves giving personalities and names to inanimate objects?  I know I do.  Look at these adorable kitchen pals by the crafty company Pepe and Friends!  I am totally in love with the table ware sets, particularly Coco the Creamer and Sugar Daddy the Sugar Shaker.  I am obsessed with my morning coffee, as are my awesome roomies Blaire and Angela, and I think the three of us would love to sit down and chat all Coco and Sugar Daddy (we're not very awake in the morning). Madonna turned 51 yesterday! Yes, despite all of her irreverence, her glamour, and her yogalates, it seems Madonna does actually age. Certainly Madonna's brand of 51 is a little different than the run of the mill; after being serenaded by Polish concert-goers, Radar says Madge retreated to the Italian Riviera with her model man-cessory, Jesus Luz. But, fear not! Just like us normals, she did go out for cake (!!!), and her friends are planning a nice party for her sometime this week. . . it just happens that her friends are the boys behind Dolce and Gabbana. The great movie site Hammer to Nail has posted a call-to-arms for cinephiles in NYC to save local video rental store Cinema Nolita by supporting the creative and awesome endeavors of its Video Store Girl Eleonore Hendricks. Eleonore says, 'Really, our first idea was to just make sure that we didn't have to sell the collection off individually, to make back the money we had lost by not being able to pay the rent... The goal is to make the 8,000 dollars so we can pay our back rent so we don't have to use the videos as collateral. Read More

FYF Sends an SOS!

BY Team Intern in General

Plucky 18 year old Sean Carlson started the independent and aptly-named F Yeah Fest in 2004, alongside his buddy Keith Morris (yes, that Keith Morris, of Black Flag and the Circle Jerks). Since then, the festival has grown out of it's Echo Park home to a new locale in the LA Historic State Park, and the FYF crowd holds even more events all year. And, needless to say, the festivals draw a killer crowd of performers including Ladyhawke, Sarah Silverman, No Age, Japanther, and Matt and Kim. Read More
America's Next Top Model starts its lucky 13th season (or 'cycle' in CWspeak) next month, ushering in a new league of young women vying for that kind of fleeting semi-famehood only Tyra Banks can bestow. This time 'round, Tyra's throwing us a real curveball; none of the contestants pass the 6 foot mark, making these girls the shortest class paraded past the show's fabulous judges (the teeniest is only 5'3''). Unfortunately, Tyra must have gotten so caught up with this small love idea that she neglected to sign up any plus size models. Read More

The Name Game

BY Libby Zay in General

What's in a name?  Apparently, a lot more people get heated up about the issue than you might think.  Although far from a new debate, a recent study reports that 71% of Americans think women should take their spouses name after marriage.  Half of the respondents said the act should be a legal requirement. A woman who was abducted (with her young children) and raped from the parking garage of the Stamford Marriott in Connecticut is suing the hotel for not securing their facilities. In response, the hotel is now claiming (and blaming) the woman of being careless and negligent and that she 'failed to exercise due care for her own safety and the safety of her children and proper use of her senses and facilities. EXCUSE ME?! ( ) First people argue that women no longer have to worry about being overly cautious because the world has changed. Read More

Hung's Hang-ups

BY debbie in General

HBO is known for featuring shows that are not afraid to be as sexually explicit as they wanna be. So when they announced that a show called Hung, about a male prostitute, was coming to their channel, I figured it would contain some sex, and, in particular, some hot male booty. And, in fact, there is a naked man-butt right in the opening of the show. Read More
