For graduation, my bestie and I wanted to go all out--drop some serious doughcoin on something totally extravagant and somewhat irresponsible. I'm pretty sure most people in our situation would pull a collegiate cop-out and buy a bunch of booze. I adore Miranda July. I want her creativity for my own and I gobble up everything she produces, whether it be her short stories, performance art, films, or the Learning to Love You More assignments (which they no longer do!). When I saw the pictures of her on VICE's site, well, I craved more. The subject of the set of pictures was to take an extra from a still of a film (The Godfather, Grease, and The Outsiders are three of those that were selected) and have July recreate that scene, thus giving full attention to someone who is simply part of the background in these films. Georgia O'Keeffe has been all over the news lately. Turns out Lifetime premiered a movie the other evening (feat. Joan Allen and Jeremy Irons) about O'Keeffe's personal life and her struggle to become an established artist. Then, an exhibit of her work opened at the Whitney Museum of American Art in NYC on the 17th of this month. Georgia O'Keeffe: Abstraction will feature her lovely abstracts, which were often overlooked (due to the sexual nature many saw in her floral prints). Read More
