According to a recent report from the World Health Organization, transgender people are not getting adequate health care, and widespread discrimination is largely to blame. This really shouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone, and it can be seen most clearly when you consider the extremely high rates of HIV among transgender women worldwide.

One of the Seven Sister colleges has amended its policy to include transgender students in its applicant pool. This action is a big step towards inclusion of transwomen and also raises the question of what it means to create a safe female space.
On February 7th the Board of Trustees at Bryn Mawr College voted to accept the recommendation to review the university's mission regarding transgender, non-binary and gender nonconforming applicants. Read More

Do you remember Project Runway’s season eight fan favorite and finalist Andy South? He was always calm, polite and drama-free as an out and proud gay man. Well, now almost two years later, Andy South is an out and proud transgender woman, named Nong Ariyaphon Southiphong. Yesterday, Southiphong changed her Facebook gender from “male” to “female,” making her transition publicly official.
The 25-year-old designer largely went about her change quietly but has been uploading many gorgeous photos onto Facebook since March, according to the Daily Mail. Read More

Gender neutral dorm rooms are beginning to creep their way onto college campuses across the country. Barnard College is one institution that has begun accommodating queer and trans students. Beginning this fall gender neutral dorm rooms will be offered on a trial basis. The push for gender neutral housing was started almost two years ago by the Barnard Student Government Association.
