In an interview with Bitch Magazine, Runaways bass player Jackie Fuchs discusses how she came forward last month to say that Kim Fowley had raped her in 1976. Fuchs was passed out at the time of the attack, having taken Quaaludes, but multiple people saw the rape occur; the recent Bill Cosby allegations and other women telling their stories moved Fuchs to speak out about her own experience.
“The music industry was not very kind and welcoming to women in the mid 70s,” Fuchs told Bitch. Read More

Fans of The Runaways haven’t known what to think since Jackie Fuchs, The Runaways’ former bassist, accused the band’s late manager, Kim Fowley, of sexually assaulting her in 1975. The biggest source of controversy has been her claim that bandmates Cherie Currie and Joan Jett, among others, were in the room when it happened. Both Currie and Jett have denied this claim, but in different styles.
Jett released a statement on Friday:
“Anyone who truly knows me understands that if I was aware of a friend or bandmate being violated, I would not stand by while it happened. Read More

As a hardcore Runaways fan, I was not surprised by the story that went up last night on the Huffington Post about the rape of Jackie Fuchs, original bassist for the legendary girl group The Runaways. In the excellently reported long-form article The Lost Girls by Jason Cherkis, Jackie alleges that their producer and manager, noted scumbag Kim Fowley, raped the then 16-year-old Fuchs while she was passed out, having been given Quaaludes, in 1975. I’m sure you won’t mind that I’m not reciting this letter out loud to you on YouTube, the way a 14-year-old Twilight fan would. People are so full of feelings about you lately, Kristen Stewart—about your affair, your breakup, your public apology, your reconciliation. I have feelings about you too, but I’ll do my best not to make this weird.
I’m sorry that I didn’t have the best impression of you at first, when I caught New Moon on a plane. Read More

After New Kids on the Block, Jonathan Knight, came out earlier this week to a chorus of sarcastic “who knew?” and “who cares?” Mary Elizabeth Williams of Salon.com took it upon herself to explain pre-teen gals attraction to gay pop stars. According to Williams, heartthrobs occupy a brief moment of innocence in a young girl’s sexual awakening. A time when a young girl “wants a boy like those purity vow-taking Jonas Brothers. A boy like Bieber. Read More

Finally! A teaser trailer for The Runaways starring Kristen Stewart as Joan Jett and Dakota Fanning as Cherie Currie. Emphasis on the word 'teaser' -- it's less than a minute long. But you get to see 1) Dakota wearing some amazing '70s red streak blush and 2) K-Stew smash a chair. I've already watched it 3 times in the past 10 minutes.
