From She Hate Me   The incredible actress Kerry Washington, a longtime supporter of LGBT Rights, recently opened up to Advocate about her role on Scandal and the impact she hopes it has on the gay community. The show follows her character, Olivia Pope, as she struggles to keep her relationship with the president a secret, drawing parallels between her love story and that of a gay couple. For Washington, the show has deepened her awareness of the complexities and heartbreaks of closeted relationships; she explains, “Unfortunately, Olivia [... Read More
I know that Clare Bowen, the 24-year-old actress who plays Scarlett O’Conner on ABC’s Nashville, is a native Australian, but when she calls me from Tennessee, I’m still surprised when I don’t hear a sweet southern drawl on the other end of the line. It’s a testament to how seamlessly Bowen slips into her character, a wide-eyed singer/songwriter on the verge of blowing up on the country music scene. Read More
This past week, awesome human and genius of cinema Joss Whedon was honored by Equality Now at the Beverly Hills “Make Equality a Reality” event for his work on gender equality. When called to the stage, Whedon proceeded to make the most perfect speech, critiquing the word “feminist” and exposing the way in which words today carry such incredible power with them. Addressing equality and his problem with “feminist,” (not feminists, he quickly clarifies) Whedon explains, “Because you can't be born an ist. It's not natural. ... Read More
YOU GUYS. THE BEST THING HAS HAPPENED. As announced yesterday, NBC has ordered thirteen episodes of a new sitcom from TV/comedy/everything goddess Tina Fey. Ellie Kemper from Bridesmaids and The Office is set to star as a woman who moves to New York following her escape from a doomsday cult, sooooooo this is probably going to be the greatest thing to grace the small screen in a while (or just...ever). The show, currently untitled, will debut next fall. Read More
Girls creator, director, star, and all around fabulous lady Lena Dunham has been selected to give a keynote address at next year’s South by Southwest Film Conference and Festival (SXSW). Along with Dunham, film producer/horror expert Jason Blum and YouTube sensation Casey Neistat will also keynote. This news is particularly exciting, as next year will be the first time SXSW has programmed keynote addresses. Read More
Guys, I’m crying rainbows. I don’t think you understand how much this new spinoff means to me. Ja’mie King, the teen queen with a stank-ass attitude from Summer Heights High, is getting her own television show. This news is so perfect, I could scream from excitement.  Ja’mie’s character is crass, and she's the ultimate stereotype of a “popular, mean girl.” Her new mockumentary style show, Ja’mie: Private School Girl, will be a series of six 30-minute episodes. Hannah Horvath and her friends have it rough—they’re college-educated, financially supported, and so, so white (maybe not for long).  And in a Saturday Night Live sketch that aired during this weekend’s season premiere, the Girls girls have a new roommate with whom to compete in their weekly misery poker: Blerta. Tina Fey plays Blerta, a poor Albanian refugee with OCD (Old Cow Disease) who puts Hannah’s problems into perspective—“Honestly, your life is, like, so much more interesting than mine. Read More
Trigger Warning: This post mentions sexual abuse within the prison system. Spoiler Alert! If you're not caught up with the whole season, avert your eyes! It’s safe to say that Netflix's Orange is The New Black has taken over my life. It’s okay; the first step is always admitting you have a problem, and I’m an OITNB addict. I’m at the point of wanting to read the real Piper Chapman’s (who’s actually Piper Kerman IRL) actual memoir, Orange is The New Black: My Year In A Women’s Prison, and possibly starting a book club amongst my friends. If you're desperately clinging to your childhood like me, then try not to freak out. Pop girl group Momoiro Clover Z just confirmed at a Sailor Moon 20th anniversary event that the long overdue brand new Sailor Moon series is supposed to debut this winter. Oh. My. Grosh. First of all, HAPPY ANNIVERSARY, SAILOR MOON! You could practically be twinsies with us!  Looking forward to seeing these ladies again. Well, maybe not Chibi Moon so much. Second of all, this is AWESOME. Read More
If you’ve been binge watching the new Netflix series, Orange is The New Black (if you aren’t you totally should), you’re probably familiar with the show’s super villain, George “Pornstache” Mendez. While he’s known as the cruelest, and most sexually devious corrections officer, Pablo Schreiber actually isn’t like his character. For one thing, his character’s mustache goes a long way. Read More
