Brooklyn-based singer-songwriter Sami Akbari, who performs as sami.the.great, has just released a video for her throwback single “Hear Me Now”.
Sami’s twee-yet-powerful voice and charmingly introspective songwriting usually bring Ingrid Michaelson to mind, but she puts on her Nancy Sinatra hat (or, more appropriately, flip wig) for this upbeat track. When you break up with someone, how does it make you feel? What do you do to help yourself cope? In the music video for her song “Dresser Drawer,” singer sami.the.great deals with this situation in a gentle, honest, and even somewhat funny way. Her voice is lovely, the concept for the video is creative, and the song? Catchy! (I especially love all the unusual sounds she uses in the synth-y percussive beat that runs throughout the track.)
