In its annual salary report to Congress, the White House revealed some disappointing numbers. Currently, female employees are making 84.2 cents to every dollar made by a male employee, despite the female presence dominating with 263 staffed to 209 males.

On Tuesday, Senate Republicans blocked the Paycheck Fairness Act, a bill that would have ensured women be paid the same amount as their male counterparts. Despite the fact that this bill seems to make perfect sense to anyone with half a brain, the final vote was 52-47. The real mind-boggling cherry on top of this already non-sensical sundae is the fact that several female senators (who apparently don’t mind being paid less than their male counterparts all that much) were among those that voted against the bill.
