Katy Perry isn’t necessarily known for her modesty.  On her candy-coated Teenage Dream cover, she posed naked amongst fluffy pink clouds. On occasion, she’s also been known to shoot whipped cream out of her bra. But the increase in female nudity in pop has her concerned.    In conversation with NPR’s Scott Simon, the singer said, “females in pop-- everybody’s getting naked [...] I’ve been naked before but I don’t feel like I have to always get naked to be noticed. Someone in Dublin is boycotting Rihanna’s boobs. Recent posters for the singer’s “Diamonds” tour feature the her topless, with her breasts obscured by a logo, but apparently that isn’t modest enough. Twitter has been exploding with pictures of censored versions of the poster. It would seem that anonymous perpetrator  is covering up Rihanna with different shirts and dresses. The Independent called the perpetrator a "mystery prude," which just might be the most enticing bandit name in all the land. Read More
I’m not going to lie. When Rihanna took Chris Brown back I was not happy. In fact, I bordered on morally outraged. How could the girl who had me fantasizing about singing, "Want you to make me feel like I'm the only girl in the world" to the boy who was breaking my heart be so…stoopid? How could the star that millions of young girls idolize set such a bad example as to take a man who has abused her back? Easy. Rihanna is human, young, and (somehow) in love. Does this give the media the right to criticize or mock her decisions?  Apparently, it depends who you ask. Read More
Pre-Internet, if you wanted to send a love letter to someone, you’d write it down on paper. Maybe you would add a few x's and o's, stickers, a mixtape (in my romantic imagination), a lipstick kiss for good measure, and send it through snail mail. But today, if you want to send a love letter, would you post it on the Internet? Or even address it to the Internet? Now, there’s an entire site called “Dear Internet…” dedicated to writing love letters online. Read More
The Metropolitan Museum of Art's annual Costume Institute benefit gala is unofficially one of fashion's biggest nights - Ralph Lauren declares it the "Super Bowl of fashion." A-listers, armed with their $25,000 tickets, came together Monday night in their most adventurous outfits to make an impression and celebrate fashion as an art at the Vogue-sponsored event. And while some of the sartorial choices on Monday shone, many fell flat, and some were just perplexing. Read More
"DEAR MEDIA.. Ur plan is not working.. I'm not going anywhere so get used to me," Chris Brown warned in a twitter rampage that was later deleted. In other news, the sky is blue and water is wet. Read More
About three years ago, when Rihanna’s pivotal third album Good Girl Gone Bad was released, Jay-Z dubbed her the Black Madonna. It seemed ridiculous at the time, but considering Rihanna’s reinvention of herself with every work that followed, Jay-Z might have been onto something. Rihanna’s gumption has progressively escalated in both her sound…and hairstyles. Through her “safe” period during her first two albums Music Of the Sun and A Girl Like Me, the Bajan beauty emitted a Pop-Caribe vibe on the first, delivering her debut hit “Pon De Replay”. Read More
