Want to hear the biggest dad joke of the year? Missouri state Representative Paul Joseph Wieland wants to prevent his three daughters from obtaining birth control through their group health insurance. Did I mention that two of his daughters are adults? It’s not enough for Wieland to tell his daughters not to take birth control. He wants their insurance to block coverage for the three women in case they decide to disobey his wishes. Read More
  Wait - what?! It's awful but true - a case is moving through Mississippi’s court system that could set precedent for pregnant women to be jailed for their own miscarriages or stillbirths. The case is Nina Bukhalter’s. She took meth while she was pregnant, and her baby girl died at two months old due to issues with the substance withdrawal. Now Nina is on trial for her daughter’s death. The courts are calling it manslaughter, and that is a big problem. Read More
  Do you love to knit?  Well pick up that yarn and get knitting for The Birth Attendants: Prison Doula Project’s annual fundraising Knit-A-Thon.  Your knitting will support The Birth Attendants and their reproductive rights advocacy services provided to imprisoned mothers. The Knit-A-Thon is throughout the month of October, but you can sign up immediately.  Once you’ve signed up, you’ll receive a packet with a square patch pattern as well as yarn and sponsorship forms.  If you don’t knit, you can sponsor someone else to knit for this project.
