This week, Refinery29 launched “Behind The Headlines: Daughters of Paradise,” a beyond-stunning multimedia feature, which explores the lives of three Syrian women who have been displaced to Turkey due to the civil war. The feature presents a unique perspective on what the United Nations’ Refugee Agency has called “the worst humanitarian crisis of our generation.”
Here are the stories of three women refugees, “daughters of a vanished Syrian paradise,” who someday hope return. Read More

If you’re like me, then you love when artists put a new spin on the classic Disney princesses. We’ve seen them super sexualized, with beards, and even fused with Orange is the New Black characters. The newest Disney princess art might be my favorite, though.
Tumblr artist, TheNamelessDoll, reimagined some of our favorite princesses as plus-sized, but instead of simply illustrating them this way, she created some impressive GIFs that actually bring the princesses to life. Read More

Like most of us, Jemima Kirke, of Girls fame, has had her fair shares of struggles with body image. She may be on a TV show where characters are known for getting naked, but that's not where her body concerns began: In an interview with Kelsey Miller of The Anti-Diet Project in Refinery29, she talked about her struggles with body image and self-acceptance.
Kirke recalls, “‘My mom used to say to me, 'I think you’re beautiful. I think you’re perfect. I just want you to be happy.'" ... "That's such a mixed message, though... Read More

In a recent interview with Tom Brady, designer and director Tom Ford made some interesting age-related comments about the football player’s wife, the absurdly gorgeous supermodel Gisele Bündchen.

Last week, we caught wind of a horrific factory fire in Karachi, Pakistan that claimed the lives of 264 workers. Reporters at Refinery 29 drew similarities between the brutal blaze and the 1911 Triangle Shirtwaist Factory fire here in the states. And with good reason: The Pakistani factory kept their doors and windows sealed shut and had no emergency exits. Under these conditions, the trapped workers were left to suffocate and burn.
Horrifyingly enough, this particular factory was responsible for manufacturing clothing for the United States and Europe. Read More
After two years worth of criminal activity, a Colombian gang of drug smugglers have finally been apprehended in Barcelona. Turns out, they were trafficking cocaine in...wait for it...fake Manolo Blahniks. How? What? Where? Well, they basically mixed the drug with liquid until it turned into paste, molded the substance into Manolo-esque shapes and painted the "shoes" in a variety of colors. Once the shoes got to their proper owners/dealers, the dealers would somehow turn the shoes back into cocaine and start a selling. Read More
Here are a few more pumpkin related things I can totally get behind! I wouldn’t eat these, but boy are they neat to look at. Refinery 29 took a creative, designer-inspired approach to good ole fashioned pumpkin carving. My pumpkins are looking decidedly uncool compared to these babies, but maybe that just means it’s time to get creative. One thing’s for sure, this proves there’s more than one way to embrace fall style! Inspiration for the above pumpkin should be obvious (Louis Vuitton!). Read More
