Jay-Z, Will Smith, and Jada Pinkett Smith have joined forces to produce Free Angela & All Political Prisoners, a documentary premiering at this year’s Toronto Film Festival. The film marks the 40th anniversary of the acquittal of Angela Davis, the revered African American activist, writer and educator who faced criminal charges in the 1970s, at a heated moment in civil-rights history. Iggy Azalea may be the newest larger than life female on the rap scene, but her videos tend to favor the pint-sized. She went viral for her video for her song "PU$$Y," in which what loos like a six-year-old kid clings to her neck. If he hung around the set long enough, he could hear lines like "pussy illy, wetter than the Amazon, taste this kitty" or "taste the rainbow, here's my Skittles." Not exactly age appropriate, but more like a premature lesson in sex-ed. Her latest video has less pussy and way more pageantry. Read More
Past BUST “Man We Love” and New Orleans DJ Rusty Lazer is in town with rapper Nicky Da B and we’re ready to get groovin'. Primarily known as the live DJ and creative partner of Sissy Bounce rapper Big Freedia, Lazer also has some sweet solo spins that are worth getting familiar with. Combining an eclectic range of genres and cultures from the streets of his hometown, Lazer’s sets promise everything from '50s twists to '70s soul and R&B. Read More

If you didn’t already know, Childish Gambino is the rapping alter-ego of Community star Donald Glover. His newest mixtape, Royalty, dropped yesterday, and it features RZA, Ghostface Killa, and Beck. But it's the voice who ends Royalty that really has us BUST-ies excited.
The fabulous Tina Fey appears on the final track, “Real Estate,” spitting some sick rhymes. Read More

Femcees have a hard time in the hip-hop game. The industry seems to think that it can only acknowledge the work of one female rapper at a time--and each new one gets compared to Nicki Minaj, no matter how little the two have in common. Though female rappers are often treated shittily, talented new acts are popping onto the scene every day. One of my current favorites is Nitty Scott, a Brooklyn-based rapper who spits ridiculous, clever, and insightful bars. Read More

For ladies who love ladies, pop music can be kind of a downer. All the sexy divas sing about their boy toys and not about their gal pals (Katy Perry definitely does not count. I don’t care if she kissed a girl, nor if she liked it). Don’t get me wrong, I love Tegan and Sara just as much as the next grrrl. The Indigo Girls, too, have been known to provide some solid support in my times of desperate emotional need. Sometimes, though, the vibe I’m going for is less tragic-heartbroken-nostalgia and more get-your-booty-on-the-floor-and-shake-it. Read More

Hands down, Mariah's “All I Want For Christmas Is You” is the best Christmas love song ever. But Princess Superstar’s “Xmas Swagger” might give Mariah a run for her money.
This new holiday jam is simple--it's a list of all the things Princess Superstar loves during the holiday season: from beaded sweaters, to kissing under the mistletoe, to Justin Bieber, to hot cocoa (the warm beverage), to hot Coco, Ice-T’s wife.
Watch Princess Superstar stroll around 125th Street in New York City spreading Christmas cheer, below, and buy the song here. Read More

Move over Nicki Minaj, because there’s another Nikki on the scene--Nikki Lynette. The latter's song, “Shut The F*ck Up Boy,” might have the best chorus ever, and is currently being played on repeat here at the BUST HQ.
Lynette’s got serious mc chops, a slight Left Eye vibe, and a dash of afro-punk style. We think she's a pure original, and a must-watch.
Check the video out below and then go download her new mixtape, Roses N’ Guns 2: The BADDER ASSED Mixtape That Rocks (The Rematch). Read More

Azealia Banks (aka MC Miss Bank$) brings us a brand new type of rap/dance sound in her song "212". Seriously, you'll be dancing way too much. Reining from Harlem, this is the 19-year-old rapper's newer version of the video after the "official" one got leaked by some former friends a few months back. But the best thing about Azealia is not only can she spit, but she can sing too! Either way, I'm still gonna be jamming for a while. Read More
