Well, shit. “The names and contact information for more than 300 Planned Parenthood employees have been published on a private website hosted by a group of hackers, part of an organization called 3301,” according to the Los Angeles Times. By publishing this confidential information, the hackers are putting the employees at risk for harassment and physical harm, endangering them and their families. Read More
I have three alarms set on my phone to remember to take my birth control pill. Three. And sometimes, I still forget to take my pill. If you also take the pill, you probably understand my struggle. When you take your pill, the clock resets. You simply open up the device, pop out a pill, and bam. You’re done for the day. Read More
Weeks after the Center for Medical Progress released its edited sting operation videos featuring Dr. Deborah Nucatola of Planned Parenthood, House Democrats are calling for an investigation into CMP – a logical step in the debacle. Currently, Planned Parenthood is under close scrutiny by House Republicans who want to shut the organization down by stripping it of funding. CMP believes Planned Parenthood is profiting from donated fetal tissue and wants to end the organization for good. Read More

Ever dance merrily in a room full of feminists? Me neither, until I partied Planned Parenthood style on Tuesday at their 11th annual Summer Sex and Spirits event, a night I’d describe as half fundraiser/silent auction, half rave. I spent my evening at the Broad Street Ballroom enjoying the fabulous open bar (they had a cocktail named the Ruth GINsburg), boogeying to perfectly DJ’ed music, and marveling at the work of Mistress B, a leather-clad balloon dominatrix who dispenses helium for her latex creations through a nipple pump. Are you tearing your hair out over abortion restrictions in Texas? I sure as hell am! The latest blow to women’s health has been dealt by Republican Governor Greg Abbott, who has signed off on a two-year state budget that prevents Planned Parenthood from participating in the Breast and Cervical Cancer Services program. The joint state-federal program provides free cancer screenings for uninsured, low-income Texas women. A provision of the budget stipulates that clinics affiliated with abortion providers cannot receive funding from the program. Read More
231 laws restricting abortion access have been passed since 2010, and yesterday’s Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act, passed in the House yesterday, is one of the worst—John Boehner called it “the most pro-life legislation to ever come before this body.” Here’s what you need to know: It bans most abortions after 20 weeks. As Planned Parenthood explains, “Nearly 99 percent of abortions occur before 21 weeks, but when they are needed later in pregnancy, it’s often in very complex circumstances. Read More
NC Republican State Representative Pat McElraft filed an anti-choice bill claiming the focus was to primarily create jobs. Her explanation? Fewer abortions equals more "little taxpayers" which somehow helps jobs, right?  The bill triples the state's waiting period for medical care from 24 hours to 72. It requires that only an OB-GYN perform an abortion; it also keeps faculty and students at UNC Chapel Hill and East Caroline University from supervising said abortions. This equates to two of the country's best medical schools being unable to provide future OB-GYNs proper training. Read More

Another day, another senator who does not understand how birth control works, despite wanting to pass legislation banning certain kinds of birth control. Can we get these guys a pamphlet? This time it was Sen. Kevin Lundberg from Colorado, who serves as chair of the Health and Human Services committee. He has characterized IUDs as abortion causing drugs, even though health care experts have said that isn’t true. It just...is not true. In the Coloradoan, Lundberg speaks to his point by saying: “Protecting life is a very big issue. Read More
