I never really got into the idea of Valentines Day. I'd like to like it, but I just...don't.  In fact, last night the boy and I had our annual V-Day-plans convo. To say the least, we came up empty handed. However, this morning my prayers for St.Valentine to f-off were answered. Search no more for restaurant reservations;Your plans are right here: With sponsorship from Panache, New York Night Train, and BUST (us, duh), Planned Parenthood will be hosting their yearly Valentine's Day concert and dance at the Music Hall of Williamsburg. On a day that granted women the basic human right to their own bodies 42 years ago, the GOP passed new restrictions in the House of Representatives that would legally prohibit federal funding for abortions. The bill would prevent a woman's ability to buy private insurance plans that cover abortions, deny small businesses tax credits if they include abortion care in their insurance plans, and restrict women from having their abortions covered by Medicaid. We've all seen it. At some point in our lives we've passed by a group of people trying to guilt the universe out of being Pro-Choice. At best this is mildly annoying, but usually these activists, who utilize gory posters, "dead" baby dolls, and shaming, make women feel criminal.  Journalist Sunny Hundal was in for a renewal of faith in humanity when he started filming anti-abortion activists ( members of Abort67) outside of a London clinic.     On Saturday, Sept. 20, The Theater at The Ace Hotel in downtown Los Angeles held an art gala with proceeds benefiting Planned Parenthood. Radiating a poetic elegance from every angle, the venue reiterated the contextual nature of the beast, the SEXY BEAST, that is; an antiquity built with a solid foundation—restored in the name of modern progression. Oh, the metaphors! SEXY BEAST was organized by Davida Nemeroff and Mieke Marple of the esteemed Night Gallery. Read More
Jennifer Whalen, a 39-year old mother of three, was just sent to jail in Washingtonville, Pennsylvania because she is charged with the crime of ordering medical abortion pills online for her daughter to terminate her pregnancy. The daughter took the pills on her own accord, during her first trimester, and the pills worked. This is not a pro-life or pro-choice issue, because if it were, the daughter might be the one jailed (fortunately, an abortion in the first trimester is legal in Pennsylvania). Unfortunately, it was the means used that were found illegal in the state. Read More
