Obviously, the best way to get women interested in securing their financial freedom is to lure them in with perfumed credit cards, right? That’s one marketing strategy an Islamic bank has implemented in order to grab the attention of the growing population of women working in the Gulf region.
Al Hilal Bank PJSC, a Shariah-compliant lender owned by the Abu Dhabi government, has been wafting The Laha Card (whose Arabic name translates to “for her”) in employed women’s faces since last month, and they plan on continuing to for the foreseeable future. Read More

We love coming across companies you can actually feel good about buying from: Black Phoenix Alchemy Lab is one of our favorite aromatic retailers, and everything they produce is tested on staff, friends, and family—never animals. They also use fair-trade and self-sustaining growers whenever possible. Not to mention the dozen or so independent artists commissioned to create their beautiful labels. Read More

I am blessed cursed with an extra sensitive nose. The good news is that if you are hanging out with me, I’ll smell that gas leak or that smoke before anyone else detects it, the bad news is that I can literally smell EVERYTHING in the room. And while I love the idea of fragrances and scented products, the truth is after about 5 minutes the Chanel’s, Fracas’ and Creed’s of the world all start to smell cloying and cheap and gross - to me anyway. The lucky ducks who already have our April/May issue have seen the “Buy or DIY” story about making your own natural solid perfume. (It’s so easy, a cavewoman could do it. One with access to a microwave, at least.) Our accompanying “Buy” section offers some fantastic scented-oil perfumes which were sniff-tested in our office by a discriminating panel of BUST staffers and interns. But you’re probably wondering what Brooklyn rocker Andy Animal would think about these sensuous oils. Read More
Coming from Chanel’s main man, whose personal library houses over 300,000 books, is a rumored fragrance for those who love and long for the romantic smell of musty books over the complete lack of smell from books via computer. According to German papers, FAZ and FOCUS, Lagerfeld is currently working on a fragrance with his publishing company, Edition 7L in collaboration with Gerhard Steidl, the distributer for most of the designer’s photography books. The apptly named Paper Passion perfume will be sold inside hardcover books with pages hallowed out to hold the perfume case. Read More
The depth of my love for the brilliantly outrageous Lady Gaga is unlimited, immeasurable, and difficult to articulate. I love how she seeks to express herself, combining her musical talents with fashion, theater, and Dadaism to create something interesting and new. Her songs are actually very well written, with their use of clever wordplay (because who doesn’t remember “bluffin’ with my muffin?”), combining glamour and decadence, and yet still be truthful, poignant, honest, and human with ballads such as Speechless and Wonderful. I don't know about you, but I'm always looking for a cool, different scent to make me smell pretty, and especially after reading the latest issue of Bust, I've even considered making my own. But now I don't have to! Lollibomb Beauty is a "one chick indie business" that creates pretty fancy sounding scents.
TOBACCO ROAD, for instance, is made with fresh pressed tobacco leaves, mandarin, bergamot, and Italian neroli. Read More
