I’m not going to pretend that I’m just a regular person with a working knowledge of Jeff Goldblum’s mainstream oeuvre who happened to be lucky enough to catch the actor playing some jazz music with his band on Tuesday night. I should be honest with you, reader, because me seeing Jeff Goldblum play some jazz music with his band on Tuesday night is proof of the principle that I maybe just invented that if you put something out there into The Universe hard enough, The Universe will reward you for being a total freak.   The BUST Craftacular @ World Maker Faire is fast approaching (Sat & Sun, Sept 20 & 21!) and since we have loads of pent up excitement about it we've been chatting with some of our wonderful vendors to bide our time until then. We recently sat down with Kimberly Shrack of Manayunk Calligraphy to find out her secrets to staying crafty.  BUST: Tell us a little about yourself and your wares. What's your main goal for your business, why did you start, how would you describe your brand's personality? How did you get your name? You get the gist. Read More
You may remember how a week or so ago we were nerding out all over the place about the beautiful reality of getting to spend 10 consecutive days at NY's Film Society watching every little thing that filth king John Waters has made to date. If you're going to pick one, The Prettiots are just the band you would want to write a brutally honest ode to all the dummies you dated in high school. Made up of spunky front woman Kay Kasparhauser, Rachel Trachtenburg (of Supercute!) and Lulu Prat (Tangiers), the New York based band is a bit of uke-pop, indie, and pop rock rolled into one cute package, with some serious attitude.  The video for "Boys (I dated in high school)", directed by noted photographer Richard Kern, is nostalgic while it also pokes fun at all of Kasparhauser's jerk ex boyfriends.   Is it just me, or has this been the loooonnngest week ever? And the news has certainly not given us much to lift our spirits, what with the tragic turn of events in Ferguson, the loss of some incredible talent, the horrible violence in Israel and Palestine—ugh. I need a hug. If you do, too, (and you're in NYC) head on over to Union Square this Tuesday and get one for free!  No, I don’t mean from those randos outside Forever 21 who write “FREE HUGS” on a piece of paper and kind of smell. Artist Jean Grae is bringing #TheHugStation to New York on August 19th. Read More
