Dream pop band Correatown is back with a beautiful new music video for their song “True North,” and we couldn’t be more excited to premiere it on BUST.com.  “True North” was shot on Lake Lanier, Georgia during sunset and at the Mayan Ruin Ek Balam in the jungle of Mexico’s Yucatan peninsula just after sunrise.  Angela Correa says of the video, “‘True North’ explores themes of steadfastness, celebration and listening for and believing in that quiet elusive voice inside that confirms joy and beauty.“For the video I was hoping to explore adventures big and small. All-American pop star Taylor Swift premiered her latest video, “Wildest Dreams,” this Sunday at the VMAS. In the video, Swift prances around in an enviable collection of luxury dresses on a faux 1950s movie set with Scott Eastwood. Swift and Eastwood co-star in the theoretical mid-century colonial film, gallivanting together across open landscapes and waterfalls that suggest ‘untamed,’ African beauty.  If this isn't obviously racist colonial nonsense to you, I don’t know what to tell you. Chvrches singer Lauren Mayberry confronted another dose of online misogyny yesterday following the release of the band’s newest music video for “Leave A Trace.” Mayberry responded to the sexism coming from a thread on the website 4Chan. The thread included a whole bunch of seriously lewd comments about Mayberry and her latest music video performance. I sifted through the comments so you don’t have to, and here are some of the horrible things that were said: Mayberry and fellow band mates took to Twitter to address the comments on 4Chan. Read More
OK Go debuted a new video yesterday and it is just what should be expected of their dynamic and creative personalities. The four-some who formed in Chicago, shortly after moved to L.A., and have since created memorable videos and concert tours are gaining momentum again with their own record label Paracadute, and their new album Hungry Ghosts and especially for their new skillful video, “I Won’t Let You Down. In Ex Hex’s new video for “Waterfall,” the band invades DC in a flying saucer; they beam punk rays from space that turn unsuspecting tourists and sanitation workers into leather clad rockers. Keep an eye out for appearances from punk icons like The Cramps’ Kid Congo Powers, the Make-Up’s Michelle Mae, and hardcore old-timer Alec MacKaye. Ex Hex - Waterfall from Merge Records on Vimeo. “Waterfalls” is groovy and infectious with energetically urgent guitar, animated drums, and bold vocals: the pure joy of punk. Just don’t call it relaxing. Read More
Ana Gasteyer is a comedy queen and a mom that I want to be best friends with. And she just put out a super fun and humorous jazz song and video! Her video, “One Mint Julep,” is a black and white sassy nightclub party directed by The Lonely Island’s Jorma Taccone. Her new video features friends and fellow comedians Jon Glaser, John Lutz, Samantha Bee and more! If you aren’t already in love with the SNL and Broadway babe, from her Martha Stewart and Hillary Clinton skits, or her role as Elphaba in Wicked, now is the perfect time to start falling in love. Zola Jesus is bigger than… well, you know. And if you don't, allow me to enlighten you with her brand new video for her song "Dangerous Days." Her music style is definitely cooler, darker and far more nuanced than many artists performing today, and I think we definitely all want to get lost within the spooky, mysterious world she so skillfully creates. The song itself is from her upcoming album TAIGA, to be released this October, and ventures further into the realm of pop than any of her previous work. However, it is in no way any less organic or brooding. Read More
Australian multi-instrumentalist Lara Meyerratken, AKA El May, has fashioned her own brand of romantic, gorgeous retro indie-pop that can speak to your broken heart while simultaneously making you want to get up and dance. “Thrills” is no exception. Jam-packed with infectious synth beats, bouncy percussion, and simple piano chords, the track has Meyerratken urging an introverted lover to let loose and have fun. El May’s voice is powerful, but not in the way you might think. Read More
Some say that Lizzo is the greatest word-play rapper since the heyday of hip-hop. The Houston-bred, Minneapolis-based emcee is taking the world by storm with her clever raps and impeccable flow. After the release of LIZZOBANGERS (on label Totally Gross National Product) in 2013, she has been releasing music videos and getting ready for some live performances (she’s performing at Glastonbury among other festivals and shows). She just released some more U.S. tour dates with Clean Bandit as they collaborated on a song together – New Eyes, off an album of the same name. Read More
