As you may have heard, Karen O came out with her first solo album, Crush Songs, in early September. The songs on the album mostly concern themselves with the emotions that O was experiencing at the start of fall. Check out this new video for Maya Angelou’s track “Pickin’ ‘Em Up,” off the recently released album, Caged Bird Songs. Named after her 1969 autobiography, I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings, the album combines Angelou’s vocal performances with rad hip-hop and funk beats. Angelou’s grandson, Colin Johnson, told NPR that he hopes this blend will appeal to younger generations. Last week, Kate Pierson released an official video for the new single, "Mister Sister" on her album, Guitars and Microphones, out February 17, 2015. Pierson, who's best known as the iconic voice for The B-52s, debuts her solo album featuring Nick Valensi of The Strokes on several tracks, and a collaboration with Sia while writing the songs.
