Second Wavers are finally getting the small screen representation they deserve. Yesterday, HBO announced that Marisa Tomei will be playing Gloria Steinem in the upcoming miniseries Ms. The series will focus on Ms. magazine’s founding in 1971 through the eyes of both the women who founded it and the women whom it affected. Kathy Najimy (Sister Act, Hocus Pocus) is set to co-star as U.S. Representative and feminist leader Bella Abzug. Set in a small, rural town in New Zealand, young Tui Mitcham has been impregnated at the age of twelve. Detective Robin Griffin happens to be in the area visiting her mother, who is currently losing a battle with cancer. No-nonsense Griffin, played by Elisabeth Moss (Mad Men, On the Road, Get Him to the Greek), grows completely obsessed with solving the terrible crime. Read More
Writer/producer Jon Avnet (of Black Swan and Fried Green Tomatoes fame) and director Rodrigo Garcia (Albert Nobbs) have teamed with YouTube to produce a series of five- to eight-minute dramas for the site’s new lady-friendly, online-only channel, Wigs. (Its logo, above, looks a bit like it's advertising a fancy new OB/GYN clinic, but we'll try not to hold it against them). Since Avnet and Garcia have serious Hollywood clout, they were able to rope in an impressive list of stars, including Jennifer Garner, Dakota Fanning, and Julia Stiles. Read More
