Get ready for it; we’re about to see a bunch of white males scrambling for the Late Show spot now that David Letterman has announced his retirement. The current top contenders include Jon Stewart, Jay Leno, Craig Ferguson, and Conan O’Brien. *yawn* Men have traditionally hosted late night television because of the outdated gendered blocking of Television viewing times. The take-no-prisoners comedy queen Margaret Cho is raising the bar on badass again, by getting a portrait of herself...wait for it...painted in her own blood. We girls know blood preeeetty well, and although it can sometimes make us want to gag, it's nothing to be afraid of, and it's inside us all! This whole thing might freak some people out, as seen in the video below, wherein you can watch one weirdo experience the exact moment when he's bitten off more than he can chew.  Apparently, blood contains the same component as many paints: iron oxide. Whew! We had quite a time this past Thursday at the 20th birthday celebration of BUST. There were loads of amazing ladies and dudes who rolled out to help us get down and have a good ol' time. We laughed, we cried, we danced, we ate cupcakes. It was an incredible, unforgettable experience (for at least this BUSTie) and it reminded us of how much BUST changed our lives and why we love it so, so much. (Sorry for the cheese, but it was kind of a big deal.) We're forever grateful for everyone who came out and helped make it happen. Read More

Margaret Cho is the queen of our hearts. Seriously, this past BUSTie can do no wrong. In addition to her comedy touring, filming Drop Dead Diva, and making appearances on everything from xoJane to The View, Margaret has taken on a new and original web-series. Cho is partnering up with two other fantastic ladies, who I totally fantasize about inviting over to play Cards Against Humanity and get day drunk with me: Selene Luna and Yvette Saunders.      In Transition will shock you, thrill you, and make you laugh out loud. While everyone in NYC was attending various CMJ shows and events last week, I was fortunate enough to be visiting Paris. Which was amazing beyond words. The city, the food, the wine, and the people: all c'est magnifique! But no cool rock shows, mes amis. One of the things that saved my evenings from CSI and Bewitched reruns dubbed in French was stand-up comic Margaret Cho, who was performing in town as part of her current tour, MOTHER.   In a little club called La Java, wearing a t-shirt that said "Yoko Ono" across the front, Ms. Read More
People still remember Mickey Avalon, right? Anyone who’s experienced the lyrical genius on display in his hit song “My Dick” could never forget him. And don’t even try to deny it, we know every time the song comes up on shuffle in the car you’re singing/yelling along. Our excuse is that the vulgarity is so bad that it’s almost good. We can all agree that this was a song made to be parodied, and there have been attempts in the past, most notably Margaret Cho’s “My Puss” from a few years back. Read More
After Katie Roiphe wrote an article criticizing feminists nowadays for being too sarcastic instead of being “serious” and “straightforward,” Amanda Marcotte over at Slate wrote a response to Roiphe’s article, saying that feminists are sarcastic these days because, well, pretty much everyone is! In celebration of snark, we’ve compiled a list of ten of our favorite snarky feminists (in no particular order). First up is Janeane Garofalo. Read More
Margaret Cho wants you to do two things: 1)    In the next two days, download her musical comedy album, Cho Dependent (featuring Fiona Apple, Ani DiFranco, Tegan and Sarah among others) with 2 unreleased songs, and pay what you want! (As long as you want to pay over $1, which you should!)  2)    Support ImMEDIAte Justice charity that works to empower young women and queer people of color to create and educate other young people about sexual health and reproductive freedom. Oh, Margaret Cho! The first time I ever saw a BUST magazine, my friend held up a copy with Cho on the cover and told me, “You would love this.” Since Margaret went to my high school (briefly, anyway), and grew up in my hometown of San Francisco, I kinda feel like I grew up with her. Her never-ending career remains impressive, especially considering she always does her own raunchy, unique, non-typical famous lady thing. And now she's just gotten her second Grammy nomination, for the 2010 musical comedy CD “Cho-Dependent. Read More
