CoverGirl’s newest model is easy, breezy, beautiful – and bald. 13-year-old Talia Castellano is a cancer patient whose makeup tutorials have made her a YouTube star.  Talia first fell in love with makeup when she was diagnosed with neuroblastoma at the age of seven. As she grew older, she began sharing her love and knowledge in YouTube makeup tutorials. She uses makeup to make her feel beautiful. “When I have on a wig I feel, not fake, just not me,” she said. “When I put on makeup I feel like I can embrace those features that I really like about myself. New York photographer Leland Bobbé's project “Half Drag” has sprung into full fruition. Just this past March, he photographed drag queen Sabel Scities with drag makeup on half of his face and au natural on the other. Bobbé posted the stunning portrait online, stating that he had four more different photos in the same style and that his goal was to try and see where these might take him. Only a few months later, the project greatly expanded with over 30 different drag queens photographed thus far, with more to come. Read More
The relationship between women and fashion is complicated, or at the very least, layered. We all need to buy clothes. That one’s obvious, or like the first layer. The second level of this cake (I’ve made it a cake) is the clothes that we buy reflect how we are judged. Teen girls all over the internet are counseling each on how to dress like a certain persona (i.e. Wear hemp bracelets if you want to be a surfer). Read More
I have kind of a weird relationship with makeup. As a kid I hated it because my mom made me an enabler to her Macy’s makeup counter addiction: I’d fidget for what seemed like hours while a woman in a white lab coat paid what sounded like empty compliments to my mother’s skin as she applied "eyebrow gel" or something equally unnecessary-seeming. I remained completely disinterested in wearing it myself until two years ago, when I discovered the boundless world of Youtube makeup tutorial videos. Read More
When I first saw this collection by Paul & Joe Beauté, all that came out of my mouth were embarrassingly giddy exclamations of cuteness. I was instantly smitten and I guarantee you will be too. While cat lipsticks have popped up before, we now have an entire collection of cute, kitty-inspired beauty products in honor of the French label's 10th anniversary! There are lipsticks, eye shadows, and nail polishes, each with a design cuter than the next. Read More
I consider myself a conscious consumer. I like to know where the things I buy are made so I don't feel any guilt when I slip on that dress or use that new mascara. But just because these things weren't made in Taiwanese sweatshops doesn't mean they're entirely guilt-free. There's still the question of where the sum of the parts were made. Read More

The official press releases for Rodarte's collection for MAC Cosmetics hit the internet last week to outrage. Their collection, Rodarte claims, was inspired by "a road trip that we took in Texas last year, from El Paso to Marfa." The collection includes shade names such as Factory and Juarez. Yes, Juarez, like the city (Cuidad Juárez) where femicide has been taking place for almost 10 years now, nearly unchecked. Read More
