The embalming process has been around for ages: The Egyptians, ancient Ethiopian tribes, and aboriginal inhabitants of the Canary Islands back in 900 BC were all early practitioners of preserving their dead. Though the methods of the past were crude at best, the “art” of embalming has become a less disturbing job (emphasis on less), and while we don’t remove the brain and stuff the skull with resin as was done in ancient Egypt—it’s still a pretty gross process to think about. Multi-talented artist and fashion designer Claudia Gold is painting a mural for BUST tomorrow at our Ladies Represent! art show and we couldn’t be more stoked. Not only will she be showcasing her skills in action, but her work will be featured in our gallery itself! Gold got her start as CLAW Money, the legendary alter ego she created for her street artwork. The New Yorker has been creating vibrant, pop culture-inspired murals and designs since the ‘80s, so we’re honored to have her at our gallery show tomorrow at Superchief. Read More
