As a child of the nineties, I have such a soft spot for the toys of my youth. Furbies were somehow cute and creepy at the same time, Skip-Its were practically the only way my mom could get me to exercise, and I'm pretty sure I thought my Lite Brite drawings had one up on Van Gogh's Starry Night.

Most of us have been teased or bullied at one point, especially at school. And even if we haven’t experienced it firsthand, chances are we’ve seen it happen to someone else. I know that when I worked in a high school, I saw that kind of negativity almost every day. It’s cruel, it’s dragging kids down, and Lady Gaga knows it. Lots of her songs preach acceptance and the importance of being one's weird and wonderful self—her hit “Born This Way” is a self-love anthem.

I've seen plenty of dudes sportin' the classic letterman jacket, but it's not until recently that I'm seeing ladies get in on the action as well. The bow ties, loafers, and cardigans of school years past have since become staples in many people's wardrobes, so it's only natural that this schoolyard gear would also make an appearance. Mother Monster and pop music goddess Lady Gaga will soon add another notch to her very long and impressive career belt with the imminent launch of her Born This Way Foundation. The foundation supports initiatives and programs that will assist and empower youth. The outspoken singer is launching the non-profit organization in conjunction with The John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation, The California Endowment, and The Berkman Center for Internet and Society at Harvard. The goal of the non-profit is to empower youth while using digital media as a platform.
