Fans of The Runaways haven’t known what to think since Jackie Fuchs, The Runaways’ former bassist, accused the band’s late manager, Kim Fowley, of sexually assaulting her in 1975. The biggest source of controversy has been her claim that bandmates Cherie Currie and Joan Jett, among others, were in the room when it happened. Both Currie and Jett have denied this claim, but in different styles. Jett released a statement on Friday: “Anyone who truly knows me understands that if I was aware of a friend or bandmate being violated, I would not stand by while it happened. Read More
As a hardcore Runaways fan, I was not surprised by the story that went up last night on the Huffington Post about the rape of Jackie Fuchs, original bassist for the legendary girl group The Runaways. In the excellently reported long-form article The Lost Girls by Jason Cherkis, Jackie alleges that their producer and manager, noted scumbag Kim Fowley, raped the then 16-year-old Fuchs while she was passed out, having been given Quaaludes, in 1975. The Sundance Institute has collaborated with Todd Oldham on a line of limited-edition merchandise available for pre-order. The products range from t-shirts to dinner plates to stickers and buttons and patches, all designed by well-known, Sundance-friendly artists. Seriously, there is so much good stuff here that narrowing it down to only six products was difficult. Who knew that, on top of being a hilarious and amazingly talented actress, Jenny Slate is also a gifted painter?! And Joan Jett’s rock-and-roll take on the tuxedo shirt is something I think we can all get behind. Read More

Hey there, BUSTies, it's finally November 4th, and that means it's one of the most important days for making your own unique voice heard! There are a plethora of different issues on the ballot in states across the nation, from the Gubernatorial race in Colorado, by which a personhood bill will likely be decided, to crucial Senate races in states like Iowa, Kentucky and Alaska.   Midterm elections are a week away and there couldn’t be a more important time to vote! Statewide laws will show up on ballots across the country that will harm our sisters in Texas, Wisconsin, North Dakota, Ohio, Arkansas, and many other states. We need to fight for our rights over our own bodies, our voices, and basic human equality. The time is now to say NO to laws that allow rapists custody and rights to a child resulting in rape (29 states), and NO to being without an abortion provider (89% of states). Read More
Yo, I hate to say it, but summer is almost over. RIP. But hey! Fall is right around the corner, with all of the orange leaves and cozy sweaters that go along with it. Oh, and don’t forget the campfire GHOST STORIES and bad Halloween movies! (Haunted Ouija boards, anybody?)   Fortunately, Lifetime is set to prep you for all of fall’s creepy, dark nights and the nefarious things that happen after dark in the woods. They are adapting the Stephen King (master of all things creepy) short story “Big Driver” for a special TV movie to premiere on October 18th. Read More
Last night was one of those moments in music history you'll always wish you'd been there for. Nirvana was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in their first year of eligibility by R.E.M.'s Michael Stipe. An all-female lineup, Lorde, St. Vincent, Kim Gordon, and Joan Jett, joined Nirvana to cover their biggest hits. On top of that, the event was open to the public in New York City for the first time. And yes, that is an accordion in bassist Krist Novoselic's hands. Read More
So it's that time of year again. Out with the exposed underbutt and in with pumpkin-infused everything and my favorite textile of all time: leather. With a legacy of hollywood's ass-kicking, catsuit-clad babes behind you, leather has the capacity to transform even the most feminine shapes into pieces that say "I know you want to, but don't even try" (and by leather I am also including pleather and latex because saving money and cows is cool. Also: shiiiiiiiny). Read More
