The Piplantri village in Rajasthan, India is becoming known for its eco-feminism. Former village leader Shyam Sundar Paliwal launched the practice of honoring newborn female babies by planting 111 trees every time a girl is born. The village now abounds with neem, sheesham, mango, amla and other tree varieties. The project was named after Paliwal’s daughter, Kiram Nidhi Yojana, after she passed away at a young age.

A 20-year-old college student in India confronted her would-be attacker by dragging him to the nearest police station while bystanders silently watched.
Pradnya Mandhare was entering the train station during an afternoon in Vile Parle, a suburb of Mumbai, when a drunken male stranger approached her.

In December of 2012, a 23-year-old woman got on an off-duty bus in India with a male friend. Six men aboard the bus subsequently beat her friend, and after he was incapacitated, gang raped her. After each man assaulted her, they beat her with an iron instrument, which resulted in internal injuries so severe she passed away.

Today, Pakistan suffered one of the bloodiest attacks the country has faced in years. Taliban gunmen entered a military-run school in Peshwar, killing a total of 141 people, 132 innocent children and 9 staff.
