Gangsta Boo, or Lady Boo if you prefer, has been one of the baddest ladies in the rap game since 1991. As the first female member of Southern rap group, Three 6 Mafia, she spits clever rhymes with a super ill flow. Her newest mixtape, It's Game Involved, proves that there's no question Boo's still got it. I recommend "Bad Times (Featuring Big K.R.I.T & K-So)," but that's probably just my everlasting attraction to depressing music. If you're not in the mood for the sads, check out the official music video for "Indiana Jones" below, which features original Indiana Jones footage. Read More
Comedy week doesn't have to stop after Saturday! As part of the second annual New York Funny Songs Fest, you can get your shits and giggles on in June too, at the CD release party for Brooklyn-based comedian, Rob Cantrell. You may know him for his LOL-able raps about being "married n shit" (below) and chillin' at a laundromat. Head over to Joe's Pub at 425 Lafayette Street in NYC on Saturday, June 1st to see Cantrell spit some rhymes off his new album, Keep On the Grass, in the whitest way possible. Plus Tiger vs. Read More
Queen diva Big Freedia has done it again. “Feelin’ Yourself” is one catchy-ass hit from the upcoming LP The Idol. The best bounce artist in the biz raps, twerks, and dances in the middle of a boxing ring, all the while managing to not get punched in the face by the two battling ladies. The New Orleans-based rapper commands her audience to “Step into the ring if ya feeling yourself!” and looks damn good while doing so. Read More
It’s no secret that we love Angel Haze here at BUST. She’s one of the most versatile hip-hop artists out there, unafraid to tackle deep sadness or go ovaries-to-the-wall aggressive with her lyrics. Now she’s trying her hand at house: “Hell Could Freeze”, a new collab with London-based drum-and-bass quartet Rudimental, is a moodily gorgeous track that navigates the ups and downs of love. Angel’s rap is still on point, but her fuzzed-out hook, layered over an alternately shimmery and spazzy beat, is the gorgeous centerpiece that holds the track together. Read More
Azealia Banks is back with another video that’s bound to catch the attention of all those (like me) who had a stint of obsession with her video “212”, which went viral after its YouTube release a year ago.  Her latest single “Luxury,” off her mixtape Fantasea, however, is a bit different than the others.   Unlike her other previously released tracks like “212” and“L8R” this newest single lacks that fast, dirty rap that Banks has already mastered at her ripe age of 21.
