I’ve been dyeing my hair since I was 10 years old. It's been just about every color imaginable- even green, and green is a tough hair color to rock. I also usually dye my hair myself since salons are so insanely expensive. I’m a big fan of body modifications. I have dyed hair and six piercings myself, and fully intend to get more, and maybe even a tattoo if I can ever finally pick something. However, there’s a cultural attitude that dictates having dyed hair or piercings or a tattoo makes someone a bad person, or unqualified for a position. This couldn't be further from the truth. Pastel locks are a summer staple. Even people living under a rock know this is true. And recently, one of my favorite writers for Refinery29, Gabrielle Korn, recently wrote a piece entitled “What Pastel Hair Means for Women of Color.” As a Latina, my hair has always been subject to approval by family members, friends, and even strangers.
