Nearly two weeks ago a gunman opened fire during a screening of Trainwreck in Lafayette, Louisiana. Eleven people were shot and three people were killed, including the gunman. Now, actress and comedian Amy Schumer is working with her second cousin Senator Chuck Schumer (D-NY) as he unveils new legislation to combat gun violence.

Amid the usually flurry of ads for cars, junk food, and blockbuster movies, there was one Super Bowl ad this year that deserves to be shared and re-shared. Mayors Against Illegal Guns, Michael Bloomberg’s initiative for more effective gun legislation, produced an ad that highlighted the NRA’s inconsistent stance on background checks. The ad aired in the Washington DC area, and featured footage of NRA head Wayne LaPierre speaking in favor of background checks back in the ‘90s. Read More

In response to mounting pressure from activists and everyday citizens alike, the White House has finally begun to explore ways to strengthen gun control in America. And as if the mere fact of that isn’t good news enough, the solutions under consideration are executive orders that would not require the backing or cooperation of our immovable Congress.
