Babes in Toyland are back! Once dubbed "foxcore" by Thurston Moore -- a label the Babes did not appreciate, the Minneapolis-based, babydoll dress-wearing, punk power trio that ground guts onstage in the nineties have reunited their Fontenella-era lineup for a show, presumably to kick off a bitchin' tour, in L.A. at the Roxy on February 12th.
The 18 years since Kat Bjelland, Maureen Herman and Lori Barbero last stepped on stage together cannot be described as ... Read More

In Ex Hex’s new video for “Waterfall,” the band invades DC in a flying saucer; they beam punk rays from space that turn unsuspecting tourists and sanitation workers into leather clad rockers. Keep an eye out for appearances from punk icons like The Cramps’ Kid Congo Powers, the Make-Up’s Michelle Mae, and hardcore old-timer Alec MacKaye.

Okay, to suggest that Brooklyn band Sharkmuffin has their sights on total world domination may be a stretch. However, their recently released EP, She-Gods of the Champagne Valley, IS the perfect summertime album for girls who dreamed of being Tura Santana when they were little. Robin Enrico is known for his quirky comic Jam In The Band, a story about a sassy all-girl band named Pitch Girl. He is a talented artist born from the multifaceted world of music and DIY culture. We yearn for more comics like Robin’s. Here is a recent interview with this indie cartoonist:
Dre: When I first saw your comic Jam In The Band online, I was really surprised to see your characters handling a flyer for a BUST magazine party. Could you please tell ... Read More

Desert Sharks are a four-piece surf (who woulda guessed?) punk band from Brooklyn. They’ve got a brand spankin’ new EP that hits the Internet shelves today via their Bandcamp. “Sister Cousins,” recorded at Converse Rubber Tracks Studio, is an EP that keeps it short and not-so-sweet, but in a good way. They stay snarky with lines like “I’m gonna burn this neighborhood right to the ground/ So I never have to worry about ... Read More

I firmly believe the world can never have enough girl bands, so I'm always excited when ladies get together and rock out like the Runaways. New Brooklyn group Desert Sharks is one such band: four tough gals with tons of swagger and a heavy sound that any fan of amped-up rock 'n' roll will love. You can listen to their debut demos (and download them for free!) here, and if you're in Brooklyn this week, check out their first show at Williamsburg's Legion Bar. Pro ... Read More
