If you watch Game of Thrones, you’re surely familiar with the super-badass youngest Stark daughter, Arya. I personally find myself living for Arya’s scenes because she’s just plain spunky. It turns out, however, that the actress who plays Arya, Maisie Williams, is just as cool, clever, and courageous. This became clear after her interview last week with Evening Standard, where she spoke up about being a woman in Hollywood. Read More
“From the forest… out of dirt and sticks” emerged Khaleesi dressed as Kristen Wiig. Wait, it's actually Kristen Wiig dressed as Khaleesi on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon—and it couldn't have been more hilarious. Neither Fallon nor Wiig—who have unparalleled platonic chemistry—were able to hold it together during last night's seven minute segment. And between the newest hit “Wonderful, Wonderful, Wonderful” and Rapid Fire Questions, it’s easy to see why. Read More
Did you sit and stare blankly at a wall of your room yesterday, wondering what regular people do with their lives without Game of Thrones on Sunday nights? Yeah, me too. That’s why I ordered this bad boy, among other reasons (no spoilers), on Etsy last week to sport in honor of my favorite lady of Westeros, Ygritte. After I got TONS of great feedback, I decided to put together a list of other great handmade Game of Thrones merch made by women, for women. 1. Read More
If there are two things I care about in this world, it’s a person’s consent to sex and Game of Thrones. Definitely in that order. That’s why I’m starting to get a little fed up with the unnecessary rape scenes thrown into Game of Thrones that were not included in the book. I’m definitely not the only one who feels this way. There has been an outcry amongst fans after last week’s episode “Breaker of Chains” included a very blunt rape scene between Jaime and Cersei Lannister (yeah, they’re brother and sister. We got over that in season one). Read More
In the past, we’ve talked about the gratuitous nudity on Game of Thrones, and even the fact that women really do love the show (sorry to break it to ya, boys). But we’ve failed you in one aspect BUST readers: we haven’t discussed those beautiful braids and up-dos that our fave GoT ladies sport on the show. I know, I’m sorry we haven’t addressed this earlier. Luckily, I can help change that. I am pleased to present tutorials on how to make your hair look like Lady Sansa’s, or that the fabulous and humble queen, Danenerys Targaryen. Read More
Since August 11 of this year, two words burned themselves into our brains: Breaking Bad. The critically-acclaimed, award winning television series began to release its final episodes earlier this month, and it has yet to disappoint. If you’re familiar with Breaking Bad, then you might know about some of the fan reactions to show’s lead female character, Skyler White (played by actress Anna Gunn).    Anna Gunn recently wrote an Op-Ed for The New York Times titled “I Have a Character Issue. This HYSTERICAL CollegeHumor video addresses that “dumb double standard” in the TV industry that’s got so many ladies’ feathers ruffled. No, not the pay grade one … or the leading actress/actor ratio one… or the one where “30 Rock” isn’t on the air anymore. (Not quite a double standard but an issue I, as a woman, have.)  These female comedians have “a boner to pick” with HBO … for not giving us the D. Read More
Apparently, we needed this statistical answer: women make up 42 percent of the HBO series’ total 4.8 million viewers. Not a big number compared to True Blood’s 52 percent female viewership, but still big enough to stomp out Breaking Bad’s 36 percent.  What’s even more interesting is the fact that women make up half of the show’s online conversations and it’s pretty much all positive talk. I’ve tweeted countless times about my observations on the ominous drumming during most GoT sex scenes, so this really doesn’t come as a surprise to me. Read More
If you love HBO’s Game of Thrones like the Kingslayer loves his sister (or if you just love having awesome nails) check out this easy DIY from Candy Glaze. The video tutorial shows you how to adorn your digits with dragon scales (!), helping us all get that much closer to achieving Daenerys’ goddess-like glow. The inspiration:     The how-to:     Some other Dany mani’s on the Westeros Wide Web include this “royal blood”-themed one, and this sultry set, inspired by one of Daerneys’ iconic dresses. Read More
