Starting July 1, feminine hygiene products will no longer be subject to Canada’s five percent “Goods and Services” tax (GST), thanks to a petition signed by nearly 75,000 Canadians. The petition’s author, Jill Piebiak, pointed out that it’s offensive for the Canadian government to designate a menstrual hygiene product as a “nonessential item” or a “luxury good.”

While sterile blue liquid will probably remain a staple of female hygiene television ads, Always has taken a small step towards reality by creating a print ad that represents blood. Somewhat. The campaign, seen above, features an Always pad with a small red dot trapped (or neatly placed) inside a maze.
Advertising expert/blogger Copyranter referred to the ad as a “historical advertising move”.

I know periods. I first got mine when I was 11 and get mine every 29 days, for exactly 5 days. I'm a machine! I've been menstruating for half of my life now and have tried just about every option out there: pads, tampons, disposable and reusable menstrual cups, the Pill, sea sponges and just wearing old undies you don't care about. Few things worked for me. Pads and sponges felt too bulky, not doing anything is only something I feel comfortable doing around the house, and that fake period that you get from birth control kinda freaks me out. Read More
