So clip-on earrings aren't exactly "on-trend" as far as I know, but ever since my earlobe ripped (it's pretty gnarly and I'm strangely proud of it), I've had to acquire an appreciation for them-- which wasn't difficult! The thing about clip-on earrings is that many of them--especially vintage ones--are like little brooches for your ears. They're often much prettier and more intricate than regular earrings, they're unique, and they stand out more. At the same time, they're also more pull off-able than say, statement necklaces (looking at you, weird bib things). Read More
There are various opinions on the day that is Valentine's Day, but me? I love it. I like hearts. I like candy. I like the color pink. I'm all for it. I'm also all for post-Valentine's Day candy sales (yum!). I think Valentine's Day is as good a day as any to spread a little love in the world, whether that means sending your bestie surprise macaroons from the macaroon queen, buying yourself a little "something something," spending quality time with your bf/gf, or just smiling to strangers a bit more (not in a creepy way). The station attendant at the Broadway/Lafayette subway stop is the cutest lady ever (totally blowing up her spot!). The whiteboard in her cubicle displays pertinent train information, but I noticed recently that she also writes inspiring messages and aphorisms that make even a tired, black-hearted, cranky commuting jerkface like me smile. As a kid, I never really understood the appeal of paper dolls. I needed a toy that could survive my rough and tumble antics at playtime, and the wispy slips of people-paper just couldn't keep up. In my tiny yet destructive hands, paper dolls easily (and often) became confetti.
Since I've grown up (I guess... I'm taller now, at least) I've mellowed out a little and have taken to watching online TV as an alternative to destroying my belongings. My newest Netflix addiction: Arrested Development. Read More

Ugh, all the shop windows are reminding me that Valentine's day is coming up soon. It's the stupidest holiday ever except for the fact that it provides the perfect excuse to order a heart-shaped pizza for one and buy yourself a present. Ever since I stumbled upon this lil gem on tumblr, I've been hellbent on getting one of my own.
This would look perfect hung right above my bed to let everyone who enters my room know what exactly is up. I'm also really feeling her anti-Valentine's day line of banners including one that reads "Forever Alone" with cat-print paper on the back. Read More

Much like Flavor Flav, I enjoy a large “statement” necklace, so I plotzed when I saw Young Frankk’s brass chokers, which resemble giant metal collars. You can special-order them by contacting her through her Etsy store ($78, including shipping in the U.S.), where you can also find a selection of other ridiculously cute pieces. I got mine yesterday, and I’m already planning on never taking it off:
The mastermind behind Young Frankk is Christine Young, a former BUST intern and an all-around rad designer and artist. Check her out on Etsy, or peep her artwork here. Read More
The fall lines and looks are starting to appear every place I turn and I couldn't be more excited. Fall is my favorite time of year. I call it "tights and sweater" season which makes me infinitely happy considering my giant drawer of colorful tights and shelves of crazy sweaters, which were kind of useless in my hometown of San Antonio, Texas. Like my Summer Wishlist last June, I decided to culminate all the things I'm in love with at the moment and either can't afford or might just splurge on in the next coming months. Read More

As the fall approaches, you don't have to say goodbye to the fruits and flowers that colored your summer. Artist Claire Nereim captures the garden in her vibrant and graphic posters. They're sure to add a little California to any room in the house, whatever your ZIP code may be.
Even in winter, her "Seasonal Vegetables of California" (above) screenprint will have you thinking 'endless-bounty-and-sunshine', not 'impending-blizzard-of-doom'. (Oh, the joy of living in New England.)
Claire Nereim lives and works in Los Angeles. Read More

I’ve been a nail biter since I was a wee lass, so getting my nails done has always been out of the question. Plus, my nails are so small that I would probably have a panic attack trying to recreate the super-cute “Sweet Strawberry” manicure design featured in our current issue. Luckily, there’s a fantastic solution for fussy nail-biters like me - glue-on nails! We showcased some fabulous talons and decals (who wouldn’t want Tom Selleck’s face on their nails?) in the magazine, but that’s just a small taste of the world of artisan ready-made nails. Read More

When someone asks me what I want for gifts I’m often at a loss. Usually all I ever want are books, but, being a literature student and having worked in a bookstore, I also usually know more about books than whoever will be giving me the gift. It’s rare that someone is able to give me a book that I like that I also haven’t already read.
But recently I’ve discovered several literary-themed items that any book-lover would adore.
First there’s the Bedtime Stories duvet cover by Tiago da Fonseca. Read More
